HORSEY-radish

My kid used to be a finicky eater too.  I made him try everything–over and over and over.  Now he eats spinach and beets and horseradish; so, just hang in there.  It’s like my kid, truly KNOWN only to me and my husband, suddenly revealed his human side, the part of him that is a person in his own right.  He is proud that he eats foods that his peers don’t.  I’m proud too.  This next Call wants to see your view of The Human Side.  Entry fees don’t get much cheaper…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Gulf Coast Art Directory for The Human Side, a photography competition that you can enter 3 images for $5 if you make the early deadline.  And don’t worry, you can enter even if you don’t live in the Gulf Coast…

HEART-BEET
of health

I am convinced that food is the future of health care.  I don’t really fit the stereotype of a patchouli-wearing, dread-locked Mother Earth worshiper.  But as I age, I find myself turning away from traditional medicine and turning toward food remedies.  All I can say is that it is working for me, and it has added a whole new air of importance to the food I already so dearly love.  This next Call wants your take on Mother Earth.  May I suggest beets?

Check out this Call for Entries from ArtAscent (online) for Mother Earth, their 2nd Int’l Art Competition. If you haven’t figured it out, hard copy art publication is being replaced by online art magazines. You can’t beat ’em, so I suggest you join them.  Make careful decisions just like you would about a gallery. Don’t forget, you can enter for only $15…

anyone?

So, I’ve been looking for a wheat-less lasagna recipe without having to resort to gluten-free pasta.  It hasn’t been easy.  I’ve toyed with the idea of eggplant or zucchini ribbons, but that seems too expected.  Then I ran across Varza a la Cluj, (Romanian version of lasagna) prepared from several layers of finely shredded cabbage (fresh or sour) and a minced meat mixed with rice and bacon and baked in the oven.  I’ll let you know how it turns out.  In the meantime, this next Call offers three shows–one of which might allow you to try Varza a la Cluj IN Romania.  Check it out…

If I had to choose one food to represent me as a person, I would possibly die of indecision.  But, since my food ramblings are only the fluff of why readers come to this site, and you don’t have enough time to wait…let’s will say just for argument’s sake that goat cheese would represent me perfectly.  Soft but with an edge, getting a little more tart with age, not for everyone, but goes well with almost anything.  Goat cheese is me.  If goat cheese isn’t you, don’t worry.  This next Call offers you a chance for a year-long representation.  Investigate…

Check out this Call for Entries from Melissa Wolf Fine Arts (online) for the Represent, and opportunity for a year of representation. This is a very new online venue; however, I had some personal success with their last call. So, at least take a look…

For some reason, just the glimpse of a downtown area makes me crave Polish sausage.  No kidding.  I once flew into Atlanta & thought I would have an anxiety fit watching the city below if I couldn’t get Polish sausage & peppers as soon as I de-boarded.  It is some bizarre, vendor-cart taste memory, I suppose.  This next Call doesn’t want your sausage, but they do want the cityscape that inspires your (my) craving.  Take a look…

We don’t have leftovers at our house.  Any additional food that isn’t scarfed up by my ravenous 13-year-old or my string-bean skinny husband ends up being eaten as a lunch within a couple of days or as an additional ingredient in dinner that week.  I’m not sure why people object to leftovers so much.  Maybe it is a marketing problem.  We should take a nod from the British and start giving dishes made from leftovers great names like Bubble and Squeak.  This next Call is your chance to have a showing in London.  Take a look…

Louis Singh says, “St Ives in the 1970s was a somewhat lazier place than today. Late morning deals were customarily made with cigarette in one hand and glass of sherry in the other. Back then my father had the Wills Lane gallery which ensured my mind was constantly flooded with images of the St Ives School as soon as my eyes had opened.

“When I was ten my parents opened the Beaux Arts gallery in Bath which continued to nurture these Cornish roots. These days with a sister gallery in London, minus the sherry, not much has changed. I busy myself by keeping the gallery from growing old by steering some youth and raw contemporary talent, towards its doors.”

I like simple foods.  As I get older, I cook and eat fewer and fewer complicated recipes and foods.  I have come to appreciate the individual flavors of foods.  Dinner at my house is frequently a small cut of beef, chicken or fish with two oven roasted veggies on the side.  Simple.  Fewer and fewer sauces.  But, then again, I prefer simplicity in a lot of ways.  I rarely even wear prints unless they are simple geometrics.  This next call makes a geometric impact for a great end look and mission.  Please give this opportunity some serious thought…
