I have to remind my son to eat. The food will be in front of him on the table, and he will take a bite and say, “Wow, this is great!” Then he promptly gets distracted by something, anything really, and I find myself saying at least three times during dinner, “Oscar, don’t forget to eat.” He will snap out of it and reply, “Oh, I forgot.” Just to make SURE that YOU don’t forget, I am reminding you of this upcoming deadline again. JUROR: Bradd Skubinna was born in Chelan, Washington in 1961 and grew up mostly in Spokane. In 1989 he received a B.A. in studio art and art history from Eastern Washington University. He lived for six years in Seattle, and had his first solo show at Francine Seders Gallery in 1996. In 1998 he and his wife moved to New York City, where he received an M.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts. In 2002 he returned to Spokane, where he currently teaches art at Spokane Falls Community College and Whitworth University. He has curated exhibitions at Kolva-Sullivan Gallery in Spokane, the N.W. Museum of Arts & Culture and at Spokane Falls Community College.

Skubinna’s art has been exhibited in Spokane, Seattle, New York City and Portland, Oregon. He currently exhibits at Spokane’s Lorinda Knight Gallery and the Francine Seders Gallery. Skubinna is a member of Saranac Art Projects.

AWARDS: All accepted entries will be placed on the Saranac website and Facebook. Cash prize(s) awarded dependent upon number of entries.

The 2013 California Open Exhibition is the eighth annual juried art competition sponsored by TAG Gallery. The nationwide exhibition recognizes excellence in a diverse range of media and offers artists the opportunity to win cash awards and exhibit their finest work at Bergamot Station Arts Center, Southern California’s largest art gallery complex and cultural center.

JUROR: Since 1988, Edward Goldman has been the art critic at KCRW, the LA-affiliated National Public Radio station, and host of a weekly program called “Art Talk”. Before immigrating to the U.S. in 1977, Goldman worked at the Hermitage Museum in Leningrad. From 1998-1999, he was the Arts and Culture Editor of “Life & Times Tonight” on KCET, the LA-based PBS television station.

He is also an art consultant/curator for corporate and private clients, among them Deloitte & Touche, Price Waterhouse Coopers and La Opinion. Goldman contributes articles to numerous art publications, including Huffington Post, and serves as a panelist, moderator and speaker for various museums and arts organizations and is a member of the International Association of Art Critics.

AWARDS: 1st Place $1000, 2nd Place $500, 3rd Place $250, Valerie Mendez Memorial Award and three Honorable Mentions

JUROR: Michael Krueger received his B.F.A. from the University of South Dakota in 1990, and his M.F.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1993. Krueger currently serves as an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Kansas, where he has been teaching Drawing and Printmaking since 1995.

Krueger’s work has been widely exhibited in the U.S., Europe and Asia, and has been presented in several solo shows and more than 40 national and international group shows over the last decade. Krueger’s work is included in over 80 public collections.

Louis Singh says, “St Ives in the 1970s was a somewhat lazier place than today. Late morning deals were customarily made with cigarette in one hand and glass of sherry in the other. Back then my father had the Wills Lane gallery which ensured my mind was constantly flooded with images of the St Ives School as soon as my eyes had opened.

“When I was ten my parents opened the Beaux Arts gallery in Bath which continued to nurture these Cornish roots. These days with a sister gallery in London, minus the sherry, not much has changed. I busy myself by keeping the gallery from growing old by steering some youth and raw contemporary talent, towards its doors.”

Roxie’s work is in numerous private, public, and corporate collections.

AWARDS: This exhibition will be featured for six months on the home page and will be archived forever. Each artist will receive a page on the exhibition featuring their art. There will also be a page with descriptions and links to one online venue, a website, blog, social networking page, etc. Melissa Wolf Fine Arts will also produce a print on demand hard cover catalog. I am addicted to chocolate. And, I mistakenly assume that if it is chocolate, I will love it. Wrong. You can screw up chocolate. The Painting Center, a gallery in the heart of Chelsea, announces a call for entries for its upcoming juried exhibition entitled WORKING IT OUT, running from June 18th to July 13th, 2013.

Artists of all disciplines begin their creative process with preparatory drawings. This enables visual problem solving throughout the execution of an artwork that is both fluid and beautiful. Drawing can be an exploration of materials, mark making, the emotional tenor of a piece, compositional arrangements or color. Working drawings are the visual manifestation of a work in progress; a working idea. Typically, this work is not seen by the public.

These are private musings that reflect thought processes. They are, by definition, incomplete. This exhibition will allow the viewer to see the private world of the artist’s creative process.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Artists working in all media are encouraged to submit their working drawings.
