MEDIA: Printmaking. Original contemporary works in traditional and nontraditional printmaking media including book arts, three-dimensional and mixed media prints are eligible.

DEADLINE:  May 24, 2014

NOTIFICATION: June 14, 2014

ENTRY FEE: $30 up to 3, $5 ea. add’l

JUROR:  Karen Kunc received her BFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1975, and her MFA from Ohio State University in 1977. She is internationally known for her large scale, elaborately colored, abstract woodcut prints.

Learn more about the Shy Rabbit Print International 5!Kunc currently serves as Cather Professor & Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she has taught since 1983. The Willa Cather Professorship was established in 2001 by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to recognize faculty members with the rank of full professor who have established exceptional records of distinguished scholarship or creative activity.

Kunc has had one-person exhibitions at dozens of galleries throughout the United States and in the Czech Republic, Japan and Finland. Her works have been shown in more than 350 exhibits in the United States and 25 nations. She has taught workshops around the world, and has lectured as a visiting artist to over 200 institutions.

SALES:  Shy Rabbit will retain 40% commission on sales.

So I’m a little shy about my food knowledge.  My friends, readers and even my family ask food questions all the time with the assumption that I will know the answers because I write about food everyday.  And, if you need to know how to boil the perfect egg, I’m your woman.  But, I can’t tell you the flavor profile of every fruit, veggie and meat on the planet because I haven’t tried them ALL.  I’m working on it though. In the meantime, when asked a question to which I don’t have an answer.  I just shyly beg off the subject.  Don’t be shy about this next opportunity…

JUROR: Professional Artist and Arts Educator, D. Michael Coffee, has over 30 years of combined experience in architecture, ceramics, painting, photography and fine art printmaking. As Curator and Creative Director for SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts, Coffee has been responsible for organizing, curating and installing over 40 fine art exhibitions since SHY RABBIT’s inception in 2004.

Coffee has been credited with transforming SHY RABBIT into the region’s most important and innovative contemporary art spaces through the high level and broad range of the contemporary work and educational programs presented.

SALES: Sales will be encouraged, therefore all artwork must be available for sale. Retail sales of an Artist’s work will be split 60% Artist / 40% SHY RABBIT.

Some of the most precious kitchen gadgets I have are handmade–from olive wood cooking spoons to hand turned wooden salad bowls.  I love high tech gadgets, but the idea that every spoon in one of a kind gives a sort of reverence to cooking.  Yes, I might own 6 spoons, all copies of each other, but each one is unique.  I even have a favorite.  The crafting of my wooden spoons is not unlike the printmaking featured in this next Call.  Investigate…

JUROR:  Michael Krueger received his B.F.A. from the University of South Dakota in 1990, and his M.F.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1993.  Krueger currently serves as an Associate Professor of Art at the University of Kansas, where he has been teaching Drawing and Printmaking since 1995.

Krueger’s work has been widely exhibited in the U.S., Europe and Asia, and has been presented in several solo shows and more than 40 national and international group shows over the last decade.  Krueger’s work is included in over 80 public collections.
