In our continuing efforts to downsize in preparation for “tiny living”, I downsized myself out of garden space. We moved back to our previous 2-acre, mountain-top abode, but anything other than container gardening is impossible with out a major terracing project to provide flat space on the side of the mountain. So, we’re going to attempt to grow a few squash & cucumbers on the deck using the railings as support. But, considering the fact that my dog has tree’d several black bears during the past two-weeks. JUROR: Susan Sterner is Director of the MA in New Media Photojournalism & an Associate Professor of Photojournalism at George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design. Sterner started her career as a photojournalist freelancing with national & int’l publications. She then worked for the A.P. as a staff photographer based in MS & CA. A fellowship with the Institute of Current World Affairs sent Sterner to Brazil. She then worked as a White House photographer. Since 2006 she has coordinated the photojournalism program at the Corcoran. She is currently at work on series of short-form documentaries examining community-based health care.

As I get older, my tastes skew toward whole foods with a higher fat content–nuts, cheese, olives. Yum. My dog is newly enamored with cheddar cheese and almonds too. He is the Founder/Artistic Director of The Revolving Museum (TRM) a nomad arts organization that revitalizes underutilized public space with interdisciplinary and collaborative art. Beck has a BFA from Florida State University & a MFA from Tufts University-School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

I will put salt & pepper on anything. Years of deliberate pause has taught me that not all things need salt, but it has been a hard lesson to learn. I have super-low blood pressure (70 over 40, no really), and my doctor surmises that I just self-medicate with salt. Who knows?
