The Still Life art is an under estimated art genre, the art is usually quiet & subtle in its communication, however it’s narrative can speak volumes about a culture, a society or a lifestyle. – Edward Burke

JUROR: Joyce Ogden is an artist based in Southern Indiana whose work explores dialogues between sustainability, the importance of water to local agriculture, nature, time & space. She received an MFA from Indiana University & has exhibited throughout the southeastern U.S., including: the Speed Museum in Kentucky & Contemporary Art Center in Atlanta.

Ogden has been the recipient of grants and awards that include the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant Program & Kentucky Foundation for Women Sallie Bingham Award. In addition, she is a founding member of ENID, a Louisville based women sculptors organization. Her work has been reviewed in regional and national publications. Ms. Ogden is currently Professor of Art at Spalding University & the Kentucky School of Art at Spalding in Louisville, KY.

AWARDS: Best of Show $300, 2 Awards of Excellence $100 ea & Appalachian Artist Award (TBA)

And, even when you ask a cashier, butcher or produce manager, no one can seem to tell you where it is or why it was moved. Me too. Recently I looked for tahini for 20 minutes. I eventually found it near the pickles. Go figure. Well, this public service announcement is no different…

JUROR: Susan Sterner is Director of the MA in New Media Photojournalism & an Associate Professor of Photojournalism at George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design. Sterner started her career as a photojournalist freelancing with national & int’l publications. She then worked for the A.P. as a staff photographer based in MS & CA. A fellowship with the Institute of Current World Affairs sent Sterner to Brazil. She then worked as a White House photographer. Since 2006 she has coordinated the photojournalism program at the Corcoran. She is currently at work on series of short-form documentaries examining community-based health care.

She launched Bridge Productions, a publication company focusing on artist catalogues, literary chapbooks, and a quarterly subscription project; and founded LxWxH Gallery located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle before coming on as partner at Roq La Rue in 2014. Jerry Beck is an artist, educator, and community leader. He is the Founder/Artistic Director of The Revolving Museum (TRM) a nomad arts organization that revitalizes underutilized public space with interdisciplinary and collaborative art. Beck has a BFA from Florida State University & a MFA from Tufts University-School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

AWARDS: Each accepted entry will be featured in a fully illustrated, handbound, hardcover catalogue of the exhibit. Each accepted artist will receive one copy of the catalogue. Cash prizes are allocated by the jurors.

I will put salt & pepper on anything. Years of deliberate pause has taught me that not all things need salt, but it has been a hard lesson to learn. I have super-low blood pressure (70 over 40, no really), and my doctor surmises that I just self-medicate with salt. Who knows? Changing from the black & white of salt and pepper to the pink of Himalayian salt and red/green of whole peppercorns in grinders really helped me break the habit. Dr. Paul is Associate Professor in the School of Media Studies at The New School in New York City.

AWARDS: BEST of SHOW GOLD: $1000 – At the Opening Reception, the artist whose work is juried as ‘Best of Show’ by Christiane Paul will receive a $1000 cash prize. ‘Best of Show Silver’ will receive a $500 cash prize. Work voted ‘Best’ by attendees during the course of the show will receive a $250 cash. The artist whose work the Show Curators choose for excellence will receive a $250 cash prize. $100 each for ten winners of Certificates of Recognition.

I want to believe it is just that sunny optimism that I seek out in others, not naivete, that makes them spout this feel-good mantra. I believe in locally-sourced, sustainably-farmed, whole foods. JUROR: Annette Cone-Skelton is the Co-Founder/President/CEO/Director of The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. Under her leadership, MOCAGA has become a vital part of the cultural community of the state. In addition, Cone-Skelton has over 30 years of experience as an exhibiting artist, fine arts instructor, curator, editor & owner of a fine arts advisory firm. She holds a BFA from the Atlanta College of Art. She currently serves on the Leadership Cabinet of Arts Leadership League of GA. She has served on the boards of the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts & Culture Coalition, Atlanta College of Art, Art Papers, The Contemporary & the Contemporary Art Society of the High Museum of Art.

AWARDS: Three cash prizes will be given, including a $750 Best of Show Award & two $500 Juror’s Awards. At the juror’s discretion, add’l non-cash Honorable Mention awards may also be presented. JUROR: Terri Lloyd is a San Francisco Bay Area transplant who has called Los Angeles home since 1980. Under the influence of a Sixties latch-key-kid youth, the circumstances of a working class life did not provide the conventional means to an art education or experience. Introduced to the Apple computer in the 1980s, a love affair with digital technology was born. Lloyd’s career has been a two-pronged path between fine & commercial arts.

In 2010, Lloyd retired from the commercial arts path to pursue a lifelong interest of fine arts. She continues to become more active as a leader in community arts organizations and activities. When not working in the studio, Lloyd runs The Haggus Society, a feminist art collective for women over the age of 40.

SALES: The Haggus Society does not automatically take a commission; however, a small donation in the event of sales would be appreciated. Please include this in your pricing. If a work is not for sale please indicate with NFS.

*Just one other note. I showed work in the first Edges & Curves exhibit after meeting Terri Lloyd through the Featured Artist contest. Since then, I have found a community of creatives I love and enjoyed benefit of a solo show in L.A. Now I am a lifetime member, AND they are lifetime sponsors of this site. I can’t imagine not having these folks as a part of my creative life. It is amazing what $12.50 can do.
