big stomach

The natural result of my food obsession is that I have tried every diet on the planet, or so it would seem.  One of the funniest (and most futile) was to use only 6″ x 6″ square plates.  The thought is that you could fool your brain into thinking you had eaten a full-size plate of food while only actually consuming the smaller portion.  The one problem with that plan is that I’m not that easily suggestible.  Is anyone?  This is the next Call is a far better use of the 6″ square.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo) for the 6x6x2013. There is no entry fee for up to 6 submissions. This show looks great on your resume, and your work could hang side by side with celebrity artists!  One of my favorite shows of the year…

There is a downside to being a long-time foodie.  As the years have gone by, I don’t have as many first delights.  Because the range of food I have tried (both good and bad) is so huge.  I do not get the excitement and pure delight of discovering a truly unique flavor very often. I would, on occasion, gladly work for food, but did you know that the Egyptians that built the pyramids were often paid with beer, bread and onions.  I don’t think so; not this girl.  As I have previously mention, I’m not a beer kinda girl, and as much as I love bread, a girl cannot live by bread and onions alone.  This next Call’s fee cannot be paid in bread and onions, but it is Pyramid inspired.  Investigate…

I’m not a huge fan of buffet restaurants.  I understand why people hosting large parties prefer buffets, but I choose NOT to go to buffet restaurants because I prefer not to be surrounded by people. And, not all food should be held at the same temp.  I don’t like being part of the herd.  Luckily, this next Call is about art and not food because it is a bit like a buffet style show.  As I mentioned, sometimes it just works.  Investigate…

I recently reclaimed my kitchen.  Lately, the time I spend outside of my home office, art and music studios is greatly reduced, and now I handle almost ALL of the cooking again.  I’m loving it, but I have become SO territorial.  My husband can make popcorn, and it looks like someone has been killing zombies.  And why, pray tell, if the dishwasher is empty can the dirty dishes not go there instead of on the counter?  Deep breaths; I digress.  This next Call is all about Mayhem; Send them your best…

I vividly remember the first piece of pizza I ate.  It was Totino’s (no, they aren’t a sponsor, but they should be).  I thought it was the best thing I ever ate.  I was around 4 years old.  I still think the little cubes of pepperoni are ingenious, and I still turn to this junk food classic when I am sick.  I realize it isn’t logical to crave junk food when you’re ill, but I do.  Yes, I know this runs contrary to my whole foods mantra. Deal with it; I’m only  human.  Sometime there is nothing like a first.  I’ve eaten a lot of gourmet pizza since then, but I still have the sweetest memories of the first.  This next Call is an opportunity for you to be among this site’s first artists.  Take a look…

the time we cannot meet

The Detroit Print Exchange is the first of (hopefully many) annual juried art collaborations.  Artists are invited to submit an edition of 25 prints and in turn receive a complete portfolio of 20 prints from all 20 contributing artists.

In truth, the The Detroit Print Exchange is a chance to redefine what it means to be a young emerging artist, to prove that good things really do come in small packages, and to build connections between artists working around the country.

The Challenge is to create an edition of 25 prints in response to the words “ the time we cannot meet”.  Cryptic yet straight forward the words resonate with missed opportunity and honesty.  Today is there truly a time when two people cannot meet? Has technology removed time from how we interact? Explore, create and redefine.
