on the go

My little piece of the country has limited restaurant options.  The Great Smoky Mountains are a phenomenal trade-off for many of the area’s flaws, but the food is a huge obstacle, so I cook.  Indian and Thai food have made their way, but Greek food, alas, is still missing.  I have my finders crossed that the food truck phenomenon will bring the flavors of the world to my little piece of the country.  This next Call wants to see the wonders you can conjure–mobile style.  Investigate…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Darkroom Gallery (Essex Junction, VT) for Mobile-O-graphy. The entry fee at Darkroom is always low ($20), and they will provide free matting & framing if you work in their standard sizes. Take a look…

Mobile-O-graphy

Images made with mobile phones are becoming part of the photographic mainstream.  Made with a phone camera, processed on the phone and even printed from the phone, these images are showing up in exhibitions both as a genre and alongside classic silver gelatin prints.  Show them your latest mobile creations.

What distinguishes mobile device photography from that made with other devices?  Less and Less.  Possibly the fact that you can do it all on one device is unique. Sometimes the images created with mobile devices are more candid. Having a camera with us all the time lets us capture moments that can otherwise escape.  Very quickly mobile phones are becoming just another type of camera taking their place alongside pin hole cameras, toy cameras, point and shoot cameras, SLR cameras etc.  Here, in the gallery, we say it over and over – it’s not the camera – it’s the photographer’s vision and skill that makes a great photograph.  Last year’s mobile phone photography exhibit said it.  They want this year’s exhibit to prove it.

Picnic stereotypes make me laugh so hard that wine shoots from my nose.  My favorite cliche is the romantic hot air balloon ride with wine, cheese and grapes. At least I can appreciate the balloons from the ground.  This next Call wants to see if you appreciate them too.  Go there…
