The intent is to showcase one work from a different featured artist every day, with the feature piece somehow tied in to something about the day – a holiday, a famous person’s birthday, an event in history, etc.

“Although I can’t promise to feature everyone who submits, there will be absolutely no charge – ever – to the artist for the feature, so it’s a good opportunity for a no cost resume builder – my only request is that artists follow the blog so I can start to build up some audience. MEDIA: All mediums are eligible, although she is partial to non-digital work: paint, sculpture, photography & mixed media. EMERGING ARTISTS
2013

This is the 21st annual competition for gallery exhibition and awards. This exhibition is devoted to the discovery, introduction and promotion of emerging artists.

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all artists, national and international.

MEDIA: All media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 96″ no wider than 120″. Sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36″wide entry door.

DEADLINE: November 30, 2012

NOTIFICATION: No later than December 30, 2012 by email.

AWARDS: There will be a $1000 cash prize awarded to one artist. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #20, Fall 2013 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Direct Art is distributed to bookstores across the USA including Borders and Barnes and Noble. ENTRY FEES: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital files, prints or 35mm slides. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Details of 2D artwork count as an additional artwork. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork without cost. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Payments may be by check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions, or by credit card using PayPal.

SALES: All works in the show must be for sale. 30 % commission on all sales. Sale price is determined by the artist.

Online Entry: On line entries are via email or web post with direct html link . Email files must be in JPG format. JPG files when closed should be approx. 500K (1/2 MB) or less in size, when open approx. 8MB or less.

Images may also be posted to a dedicated web page and a link provided to the page. Web page images should not be download restricted. Videos artists may also post on a personal web page or on YouTube.

There are monthly featured foods at my house. Last month is was asparagus ($1.99/lb). This month it appears to be broccoli (2 double crowns for $3). We’re heading toward Autumn, and I’ll be eating $1 butternut squash for at least 2 months. It is all about eating what’s in season. It is cheaper, healthier, and yummier. OPEN CALL: 2013 Exhibitions

Flow Art Space in Minneapolis, MN announces an open call for submissions for 2013 shows. Artists will be considered for possible inclusion in group shows and/or chosen as a featured artist.

ELIGIBILITY: US artists at least 18 are welcome to submit.

MEDIA: 2D and 3D media and all subject matter will be considered, including but not limited to drawing, painting, photography, book art, printmaking, sculpture, fiber, glass, encaustic, ceramics, mixed media, wood, digital art, video, and installation.

I am guilty of making the occasional sauce to cover up an over-cooked piece of meat. Yes, I know that any meat that NEEDS sauce shouldn’t be served, but it happens. However, the best things to eat are usually at their prime when featured naked. The pluot is a perfect example. It is a cross between a plum and an apricot. CALL for PROPOSALS:
Public Art

On behalf of a public art initiative for the city of Warrensburg, Missouri, the Warrensburg Arts Commission (WAC) seeks a two-dimensional design for a 10-foot diameter etched concrete circle that will be permanently installed in the sidewalk on Pine Street in historic downtown Warrensburg.

ELIGIBILITY: This is an open competition for non-professional and professional artists. A team of artists is welcome to apply, and multiple applications are allowed.

MEDIA: 2 Dimensional work. There is no pre-determined theme for artwork, but WAC suggests that the content reflect the vibrancy of downtown, the beauty of the region, and the energy of the Arts and Entertainment District.

DEADLINE: September 1, 2012

NOTIFICATION: September 7, 2012

ENTRY FEE: $20 for 1 to 3 images

SELECTION PROCESS: The Warrensburg Arts Commission and the City of Warrensburg will select one design based on creativity, appropriateness, and practicality for implementation.

AWARDS: A prize of $500 will be awarded for the chosen design. The award funds are made available through the WAC and the City of Warrensburg.
