for success

Everyone I know makes at least one dish that makes people ask, “How do you make that?”  Mine has changed over the years from hollandaise sauce to creamed spinach to 40 spice hummus.  Similarly, everyone who is in arts management or administration hears the same question, “How do I get a solo/group show in a gallery?”  This next Call answers that question.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries for 2014 Exhibitions from Flow Art Space (Minneapolis, MN).  Great news…NO COMMISSION, no really.  This is a rare opportunity in a fairly young gallery. Investigate for yourself…

everything

The featured food at my house this week is Jona Gold apples ($.89/lb). Last month is was asparagus ($1.99/lb).  This whole month it has been apples, partly because of our proximity to an orchard, and partly due to price.  We’re heading toward Winter, and I’ll be eating $1 butternut squash for at least 2 months. It is all about eating what’s in season. It is cheaper, healthier, and yummier. Think of it as a seasonal treat.  This next Call is all about the upcoming season, and it’s a treat too!  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: The Art of Music

MUSIC

When someone hums while eating, its a pretty good sign they like their food.  I had never witnessed anyone hum and eat until my son was about 3 years old.  Everytime he would sit down with his favorite foods, he would absent-mindedly start humming quietlyto himself.  He was completely unaware. We still call it “dinner music”  on the rare occasion we hear it.  My husband and I never made any real effort to stop it (even in restaurants) because, well, let’s face it…food makes me sing too, if only in my heart. (Check out this book about what your favorite bands eat on the road, pictured left.)  This next Call asks you to be inspired–by music, not food.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: The Original Show

Farm fresh eggs make me happy the same way daisies make others smile.  The only thing close to farm fresh is a Grade AA (found in upscale restaurants and better grocery stores).  Most of us eat Grade A eggs from the grocery store with flatish, lemony-yellow yolks, but a fresh egg typically has a bright golden yolk that stands tall when cracked.  Years ago, when my husband owned a hot dog shop called the Dog & Cow, he used to trade left over hot dogs (used as chicken feed) for fresh eggs.  The eggs had the wonderful aroma of garlic from gourmet hot dogs.  We KNEW what we were eating, ha.  The gallery in this Call also makes me happy with it’s sort of blatant in-your-face optimism and simplicity.  Take a look…
