Let Me Be Your Fantasy

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists 18+

THEME: Although called a “Fantasy Art Exhibit,” there are no guidelines for the interpretation of the theme.

MEDIA: Painting, drawing, photography, digital, sculpture

DEADLINE: March 31, 2013

NOTIFICATION: May 1, 2013. Only artists that have been selected will be contacted.

ENTRY FEE: €30 (Approx. $40 US) for up to 3 images. Additional images may be submitted for a fee of €5 each, up to a maximum of 10 images (including the first 3).

JURORS: Final selections for the exhibition will be made by the Artists’ Committee.

AWARDS: All selected images will appear in our online gallery for a duration of one year minimum. The selected artists will have the opportunity to participate, under certain conditions, in a group exhibition in Paris, to be scheduled for 2014/2015. (TBD)

SALES: All entries must be labeled for sale with price indicated. Keep in mind that EWNS Art Project receives 30% commission of works sold.

ARTIST RESIDENCY: I-Park 2013

Could you host a dinner party for 4 weeks in a row? I’m not sure I could either. Feeding 6-8 people every day for a month has got to be a challenge. I think it would have to involve lots of pasta, casseroles and soups. But, it would be a great excuse to eat comfort food. This next Call will give you 4 weeks away in a creative atmosphere…and group meals. Check it out…

Check out this Call for Applications for an Artist Residency at I-Park (Connecticut). There is a $30 entry fee, but if selected, there is no fee for the 4-week residency which provides a private bedroom, private studio, artists’ meal program, etc. Don’t miss this opportunity!

I-Park is both an open air and a closed studio laboratory for individual artistic pursuits in the fields of the visual arts, music composition/sound sculpture/design, moving image, landscape/garden design and creative writing. The artists-in-residence program offers a quiet, retreat-like environment conducive to exploration and experimentation – without the expectation of particular outcomes. Artists are free to conceive and execute new ideas or work on existing projects.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists internationally, aged 21+ years.

CATEGORIES: Visual Arts, Music Composition/Sound Sculpture/Design, Creative Writing, Moving Image and Landscape/Garden Design. Inter-disciplinary artists are welcome to apply for a residency at I-Park.

ROMAN SUSAN operates as a gallery and venue for arts programming in the Roger’s Park neighborhood of Chicago. Roman Susan is named after Roman and Susan Lewandowski.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists. Editor’s Note: Accepted artwork has to be delivered for a March 29th opening–only two weeks after the deadline. So, artists outside the US could be looking at hefty delivery fees for such a short turn around time.

ANNUAL OPEN CALL: Soap Factory

I am now officially one of those old codgers that complain about the price of potatoes to the grocery cashier and bitch about the prices of soft drinks to my waitress. Ugh. I cannot believe I have turned into THAT person, but I have. My Dad would be so proud. But, I don’t feel alone due to the number of artists I listen to lament the price of entry fees. This next Call doesn’t have one. Woohoo!

Check out this Open Call from The Soap Factory (Minneapolis, MN). The Soap factory is looking for work for group exhibits, AND they offer installation support, travel, accommodations, and a stipend to those selected to exhibit. Did I mention NO ENTRY FEE?

The Soap Factory exhibits work in its galleries throughout the year. Exhibitions curated from submissions and could have as many as 8 artists. The Soap Factory is a 120-year old ex-industrial warehouse on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis.

They have no climate control, air conditioning or permanent heating system; please bear this in mind when submitting your work. Projects by individual artists that propose to use the entire 12,000 sq feet of gallery space are always encouraged.

SALES: Kiernan Gallery no longer takes commission on sold works. But, they DO still have incentive to sell your work. The Kiernan Gallery was founded by an emerging artist, and recognizes the importance of selling work; they believe that if artists are paying a submission fee, the gallery should not also take a portion of the sale. They do reserve the right to negotiate 20% in order to make a sale.

Food is one of many satisfying things people produce. It communicates to four out of our five senses. Not only is it a delight for our sense of taste and smell, but it can be a delicious treat for our sense of sight as well. Preparation produces an exciting experience for our sense of touch.

For this exhibition, they are looking for art that evokes the many emotions and experiences related to or that are sparked by food. Textures, colors, shapes, and even scents can be represented in artwork and can create an intriguing palette.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists.

MEDIA: All Media including: Photography, wall sculpture, fabric, mixed media, painting, drawing. It must be wall hung. Sizes up to 12′. Video submissions will be displayed/accepted only for the online exhibition.

When I was in second grade, we lived in Little Rock, Arkansas for 18 weeks. My dad was on loan from Lockheed Georgia to Falcon Jet as an aircraft inspector. And during that 18 weeks, we say 108° temperatures, 18″ of snow AND a 3′ flood. No joking. Snow meant I got to go the movie theater and eat leftover popcorn. The flood meant I got to stay home with my dad in our apartment on the 2nd floor and eat LOTS of hotdogs and popcorn. I made myself sick with Cheese Dogs and made-for-TV movies. Wouldn’t it be nice if all natural disasters could be seen through ONLY through the eyes of child? The Manhattan Perceived art competition aims to showcase artistic works that capture the perceptions of various neighborhoods throughout Manhattan that have been impacted by or are recovering from Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

ENTRY FEE: None

JURORS: A panel of expert judges will select six winning entries, one Grand Prize winner and five runners-up. The decision of the judges will be final. The entries in the painting and photography categories will be judged separately, in accordance with the Judging Criteria as defined below. Entries in each Category from among all eligible entries based on the following “Judging Criteria”: (1) Creativity; (2) Quality; (3) Genuineness of the content; (4) How well the artwork captures the resilient spirit of neighborhoods in New York City affected by Hurricane Sandy.

AWARDS: The Grand Prize Winner will receive $10,000 US. The five runners-up will each receive a MacBook Pro.

SALES: By entering, the entrant must agree that if selected as a winner, you will provide Manhattan Perceived with your original artwork without condition or limitation. All winners’ original artwork will become the legal property of Manhattan Perceived. All winning artwork will be auctioned off at a fundraising event on February 15, 2013 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

No entrants will be compensated for the sale of the artwork in any manner. The Auction will take place on February 15, 2013 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (EST). All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross’ Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts.

I vividly remember the first piece of pizza I ate. It was Totino’s (no, they aren’t a sponsor, but they should be). I thought it was the best thing I ever ate. I was around 4 years old. I still think the little cubes of pepperoni are ingenious, and I still turn to this junk food classic when I am sick. I realize it isn’t logical to crave junk food when you’re ill, but I do.
