coffee for none

My husband is a tea drinker, and it is my fault.  So, I don’t like the smell of brewed coffee.  (I hear the nasty emails being pecked out on keyboards across the world.)  I haven’t drank a cup of coffee in 18+ years.  I think brewed coffee smells like skunk spray.  No joke.  So for a long time, my husband used a French press because the odor was lessened.  But then the plunger on the press broke, and neither of us ordered a new one.  Now, he drinks Earl Grey every morning.  I feel a little bad. (Not really.)  Hobbits like tea, or so we are led to believe.  You figure out how that is connected to this next Call by investigating for yourself…

Check out this Call for Entries from Six Summit Gallery (Ivoryton, CT) for Illumination of Imagination! The entry fee can be as low as $10. This could be a great opportunity for you to sell art AND the juror is very well documented. Take a look…

BURN the sauce

Desserts are born out of boredom, at least for me.  I have a hard time sitting still.  So, while I’m waiting for pasta to boil or sauce to thicken, I often get a great idea for dessert.  By the way, while pursuing a recipe for that illusive dessert, I often overcook the pasta and/or burn the sauce.  This next Call is a much better way to multi-task.  Take a look…

It is clementine season.  Every year around this time, clementines start popping up in the grocery store, and every year I muse over the fact that they seem more like summer fruit than winter.  Did you know that in California (where they were grown as early as 1904), a lot of people call them Christmas Oranges?  Who knew.  This next Call also hails from California.  Take a look!

I am emotionally attached to goat cheese. I recognize how very irrational that is, but the fact remains that “I love goat cheese.”  I dream about it.  Eating herb-crusted goat cheese on freshly-backed foccacia with a few capers is the height of emotional eating for me.  It can take away almost ANY bad day.  No joke.  Luckily, my bad days are not too frequent, ha.  This next Call wants to know about your Emotional quirks.  Don’t miss this chance…

I would hurt someone for a pepper-crusted cut of ahi right now. Understand, ahi is not a common food in my house.  I’m too cheap, and Gatlinburg isn’t really known for more exotic varieties of fish.  But some days you wake up and you just want what you want.  You know what would be even better?  A big glass of Cabernet Sauvignon to go with the ahi tuna.  Okay, the Cab I can pull off pretty easily.  This next Call gives you a perfect reason to sample a little Cabernet Sauvignon as well.  Take a look…

I used to live 12″ from a firehouse in Downtown Charleston.  The kitchen shared a wall with the firehouse.  If there was an alarm while I was cooking dinner, I had to hang on to the pots on the stove and the glasses on the counter to prevent crashes.  The gallery sponsoring this next Call has had a much better experience with firehouses.  Take a look…

I had salmon “en papillote” tonight.  Fear not, it just means “in parchment”.  Contrary to what you might think, it is not the French-cool-factor that leads me down the path of parchment cooking. (Okay, maybe a little.) The real reason is because it is healthy since it requires so little fat.  Okay, that’s a lie too.  The truth?  There is virtually no cleanup.  No dirty saute pans.  Yep, laziness has lead to French cooking.  Go figure.  This next Call is all about the paper too.  Take a look…
