Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces a Juried Art Competition with the theme “Botanicals” and the gallery would like for all 2D artists (including photography) to send their best interpretation of the theme “Botanicals” by depicting flowers, herbs, leaves and plants.

ELIGIBILITY: Light Space & Time encourages entries from all 2D artists regardless of where they reside and regardless of their experience or education in the art field.

MEDIA: All two dimensional media are eligible. Botanical art will include flowers, herbs, leaves and plants.

Fading Light

Open to Interpretation is a juried book competition of photography, poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. Each book begins with a themed call for photos. The chosen photos become the literary inspiration for the writers’ submissions. A book is created that matches each winning photo with two stories or poems that offer different interpretations of the image. The unique collaboration adds new dimensions to both the photos and the written word.

JUROR: George Slade has provided fine photographic artists and their audiences with insightful interpretation and curatorial expertise in exhibitions, classes, writings, lectures, and face-to-face exchanges for over 25 years.

Formerly the artistic director of Minnesota Center for Photography, the director of the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Photographers Program, and recently the curator at the Photographic Resource Center in Boston, Slade is a veteran presence at portfolio review events like Fotofest, Photolucida, Critical Mass, PhotoNOLA, and the Society for Photographic Education’s regional and national conferences.

Slade’s writings and reviews appear extensively in print and online; some may be found at his web site, re:photographica. He lives in Minneapolis with his partner Stephanie and their children.

Goat heads, really? Caught a show called Extreme Cheapskates the other day just long enough to see a man by two goat heads for $7.50 total. In many parts of the world, goat heads are a common protein, and I’m not knocking it because I haven’t eaten it. My problem with the concept is that he was supposed to be an extreme cheapskate. SlowArt Productions presents the annual group thematic exhibition, A Show of Heads. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery from October 27 – November 25, 2012.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible.

THEME: This exhibition will include all interpretations and portrayals of the human head, from the traditional to the abstract and conceptual. All visions of the The Head, including partial and multiple heads, will be reviewed and considered.

DEADLINE: Entries must be submitted via email by August 31, 2012.

NOTIFICATION: Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance no later than September 21, 2012. Results will be posted on or before this date at: http://www.slowart.com/results. Notification will be made via email and by posting on the results page. All artists who provide a working email address will be notified via email, if no email is provided, artists will be notified via postal mail only if accepted to exhibit. Type your email address clearly, if a mistake is made you will not be notified.

ENTRY FEE: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital JPG image files. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Details of 2D artwork count as an additional artwork. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork without cost. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Payments by credit card at time of entry using PayPal, or check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions.

AWARDS: Winning artists will be featured in a group exhibition at the Limner Gallery, October 27- November 25, 2012. The exhibition will also be displayed on the Limner Gallery web site. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #20, Fall 2013 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Within ten (10) days thereafter, a proof of your feature will be forwarded to you by email, and you must review and provide any changes in 48 hours via email. If no response within that 48-hours, your non-response is deemed an approval of the proof without modification.
