I am amazed by the difference in food preferences in my own household.  I thought I had everyone brainwashed to think only as I do about food.  But alas, they have escaped my grasp.  My son prefers Ranch dressing, and my husband will choose oatmeal raisin cookies over chocolate chip any day.  I have learned to embrace our difference; after all, that leaves more chocolate chip cookies for me.  This next Call allows YOU to embrace differences as well.  Take a look…

I am moving temporarily.   In addition to being musicians, my husband and I renovate houses for resale; however, we haven’t owned our own home in about 10 years.  We have finally decided to buy or build.  But in the meantime, our current rental has turned into a haven for mold & mildew.  So, we’re starting fresh in a new, smaller house (& smaller kitchen).  It would be so much easier if someone would just find and renovate a house for me for free, eh?  I am always the dreamer.  But, this next Call really IS FREE, and it isn’t a dream.  This isn’t just for filmmakers…

Film & video have become easily accessible. One can watch content on a website, television, a home projector, or even a cell phone. For some artists and filmmakers those vehicles are copies of the original artwork, each one degraded by its format. MNA believes there is a magic in seeing the film projected as a print. There is a presence a poet has reading his/her own writing. There is a feeling that resonates in your chest when seeing a band live. For these reasons MNA encourages live music, performance and audio to expand the cinematic experience beyond the screen. MNA asks that in the spirit of the festival you not video or create copies of your performance. Some participants have gone as far as to destroy the work after its first run at the event.

This exhibit celebrates works of art that bring to life fantastical myths, legends, fables, folktales, fairy tales, and the like. Around the world, from prehistoric times to the present, artists have been part of the story-telling process, giving shape and form to fantastical stories of supernatural beings, great heroes and heroines, cautionary tales, magical creatures, and more. In ancient times, artists commonly rendered images of these stories on walls, pottery, statuary, tapestries, and paintings. In more recent times, books, graphic novels, movies, apps, and games have expanded the way we experience these stories. No matter the time period, the artist becomes the story-teller and shares their spectacular vision through their art.

JUROR:  Greg Scheibel has always felt a strong connection to the outdoors. Throughout his life he has spent a great deal of time hiking, fishing, backpacking, and closely observing his surroundings, which has led to a deep appreciation for the remote locations and unspoiled beauty of the West, which is the main inspiration for his paintings. Greg paints on location as much as possible, trying to capture an honest record of the values, color, and feel of an area. The emotional connection to nature which is the result of these field studies, is the foundation for all of his work.
