I often wonder what I would eat if I only had one meal left.   I can’t wrap my brain around it, really.  It would have to involve goat cheese…and dark chocolate…hollandaise…mussels steamed in white wine…and lots of garlic.  But luckily, chance are good I have many, many meals ahead of me.  Imagine what went through my head when I ran across this Call for Entries for the One Life Competition…other than food, ha.

CALL for ENTRIES: One Life Photography Competition

One Life is an international open call for photography that delves into the lives of the global community. We are a world of a infinite stories and unique perspectives.

Photography is our way to capture the moments as we experience them. The One Life Photography Competition is your opportunity to share your vision with the world.

Artists Wanted and PDN have partnered to bring photographers together to share images illustrating their lives, loves and passions.

The world is changing, but the power of images is constant. Photography allows us to transcend barriers and demonstrate that, with all our differences, we are one community, one world, One Life.

All participants will be included in the One Life Photography Project. The first of an annual series, the One Life Photography Project will publish photos from all participating photographers as a public online gallery (launching New Year’s Day 2011) and also in the form of a hardbound archival book submitted to the Library of Congress. This is your opportunity to immortalize your story, sharing them with future generations for years to come.

ELIGIBILITY:  One Life is open to photographers from around the world!  We are looking for all types of photography including (and definitely not limited to): Fashion, Landscape, Travel, Candid, Digital / Manipulated, Artistic / Conceptual, Self-Portrait, Wedding and more!

SUBMISSION & ENTRY FEE:  One Life only accepts submissions through their online form.  They do not accept submissions that are mailed or hand delivered to them. You may submit up to 9 images for $10 per image. For 10 or more images, they offer a flat discounted rate of $95. You can upload up to 15 images for the discounted rate.

AWARDS:  The top selected artist will be awarded the Grand Prize:

• $25,000 cash grant OR a World Wide Travel Adventure
• A feature in PDN Magazine
• World Wide Noteriety

The public will cast their vote and the highest rated portfolio will receive the People’s Choice Award and a $2,000 cash grant.

JUDGING:  One potential Grand Prize winner will be determined from among all eligible entries received by a panel of qualified judges, based on a rating system that considers uniqueness, skill, and ambition.  The entrant who submitted the entry receiving the highest score, as determined by One Life, will be the potential Grand Prize winner.  In addition, selected exceptional artists will receive a digital camera package prize.

Eligible visitors to the site will have a chance to vote for their favorite entry during the Online Voting Period. The entrant with the entry receiving the highest number of votes, as determined by One Life , will be the potential People’s Choice Award winner.

THE JUDGES: 

Jodi Peckman is the Creative Director for Rolling Stone Magazine and is responsible for overseeing the legendary music magazine’s iconic images.  She is a two time recipient of the American Society of Magazine Editors Award and currently lives in New York City.

Amy Kellner is the managing editor/arts editor of Vice magazine.  She recently co-edited Vice’s 10th annual Photo Issue.

James Morris is currently the Photo Director at Lucky Magazine at Conde Nast Publications.  Prior to that, he was the associate photo editor of Allure Magazine.  He currently resides in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn.

Conor Risch is the features editor of Photo District News (PDN) and PDNOnline.com. Previously he was senior editor of COOL’EH magazine, and an editor for illustrated book producer becker&mayer!, a division of Chronicle Books.  Born and raised in the Seattle area, he now lives in New York with his wife and bulldog.

Stephen Walker has been the Photo Director for Nylon Magazine since 2007. In 2008 he founded nextspacegallery.com, an online 3d gallery with an archive of 3d artworks.  He currently lives in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

USE OF ENTRY:   The folks at PDN and Artists Wanted are working everyday to make real opportunities for photographers around the world. They have no intention of reselling your work, or using it for any commercial means outside of the terms of this contest.
