I often wonder what I would eat if I only had one meal left. I can’t wrap my brain around it, really. It would have to involve goat cheese…and dark chocolate …hollandaise …mussels steamed in white wine …and lots of garlic. But luckily, chances are good I have many, many meals ahead of me to obsess about and share with you. But, imagine that I ran across THIS Call for Entries for the asking me to illuminate my perspective about what I love.  I’ll give you one guess…

One Life is an international open call for photography that delves into the lives of the global community. You are invited to participate in the One Life Photography Competition. This worldwide search for photography seeks to illuminate your perspective: what you love, your travels, or anything that reflects your world and experience.

I think if I were a fruit (I can hear you laughing… cut it out… I mean the fruit thing literally), I would be a pomegranate.  Red IS my favorite color.  My exterior can be a little tough.  My insides are a little surprising–sometimes sweet, sometimes sour.  How do you see yourself?  Never considered it?  Think about it now because this next call is all about self-portraiture.

From Picasso to Bruce Nauman, Frida Kahlo to Rembrandt, Giacometti to Alice Neel – the self has been subject of endless exploration by the world’s greatest artists, allowing the discovery (and re-discovery) of artists’ personal identities and artistic styles.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all.

MEDIA:  Self-portraits in any form be it:  photography, painting, video art, sculpture, mixed-media, collage, design.  Any creative work that is a portrait of you is eligible for this award.  Conceptual proposals and work-in-progress are also welcome.

For 8 or more images (maximum of 20 images), they offer a flat discounted rate of $79.  The submission fee supports the running of this contest, the prizes and a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Art of Elysium, a non-profit organization that encourages artists to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions.

In addition to running the ever popular ArtAndArtDeadlines.com empire (hee), I create art of my own and hold down a day job as a Marketing Director.  I frequently get asked what it would take for me to throw up my hands and give in to my desire to do nothing but cook and make art.  The Goose would have to lay the Golden Egg.  I have a 10 year plan, but the golden egg would make it a 10 second plan.  Maybe this Call will be your golden egg.
