a cold one

My husband usually picks out his own beer.  He’s a home brewer and more than a little picky about his commercially made beer.  But, on occasion, I pick up a “Pick 6” pack from the grocery store.  My rule of thumb is to pick 3 beers I’ve actually seen him consume, and the other 3 I pick out based on the design of the label.  No joke.  Works EVERY time.  If you understand beer labels, then you might also know why it is no surprise when people judge a book by its cover.  This next Call is just for you…

Check out this Call for Entries from the 3×3 Magazine for the Picture Book Show.   I love this show.  There are phenomenal designers and illustrators who never get their due.  Maybe this is the chance

kills?

All of my life, some adult or the other has been saying “everything in moderation” to me. It has always been my favorite justification for pizza, brownies, and other I-should-know-better indulgences.  Then I watched Forks over Knives and heard “moderation kills”.  You know what killed me?  Their version of moderation was eating dairy and meat.  Really?  Milk is an indulgence now?  I have to admit, I have lowered my dairy and meat intake, but clearly, moderation is going to kill me.  This next Call is NOT about moderation, but it IS about food. or not to sushi

I used to think always equate urban settings with sushi; however, sushi can be found everywhere these days.  I know of a town with a population of approximately 450, and even their local convenience store carries sushi.  I may have to revert to the idea of street vendors or food trucks as urban food.  Or maybe truly urban food is represented not by a specific type of food so much as a large variety of options.  Hmmm.  This next call wants to know how YOU define urban.  Investigate this opportunity…

Greek yogurt is clearly the fashionable food of the year.  We prefer Stonyfield Farm Organic.  I love it, but I am really tired of the commercials.  On my last grocery trip, I saw a new brand of hummus that said “Now with Greek Yogurt.”  Really?  Putting yogurt in hummus is like putting mayo in guacamole; just say no.  This next Call is about all that is stylish and fashionable.  Don’t miss this opportunity…

I am emotionally attached to goat cheese. It takes great restraint not to continue food patterns in our menus.  I am guilty of taco night, pizza night, and buffalo chicken night.  I am trying to rationalize it by changing up the taco and pizza ingredients, but it is a pattern, nonetheless.  I’m not saying it si a bad thing, I just think it can lead to dangerous stall patterns that end in pre-packaged and fast food that I try to live without.  This next Call wants to know all about your patterns.   Let’s see ’em, folks…
