MEDIA: Open to most forms of art including photography, painting, sculpture, written word & web art. The Billboard Creative only works with digital files. So if you are a painter, sculpture, 3d artist, web artist, your submission needs to be an image of your work.

DEADLINE: October 16, 2015

ENTRY FEE: $26 for 1, $6 ea. add’l

CURATOR: Mona Kuhn is best known for her large-scale, dream-like photographs of the human form. Her work often reference classical themes with a light and insightful touch. Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, of German descent. She received her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1996. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles.

AWARDS: The number of billboards will vary depending on the number of submissions received, the availability of viable billboards & current market prices for those billboards. Viable billboards mean that they exist in well-traveled (car and foot traffic) locations. All billboards will include the artist’s name. The website will have images of each selected work, the artist’s name and a link to their website.

I live within 10 miles of two fantastic apple orchards. Between them, they grow over 125+ varieties on more than 40,000 trees. With that many varieties, many are available year ’round via the orchards’ cold storage. But, fresh apple season is upon us. Zilber is responsible for the MFA’s vibrant program of contemporary decorative arts, including guiding acquisitions and developing a presence for craft and design in the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art and throughout the museum. Zilber oversees the Daphne and Peter Farago Gallery, a dedicated space for modern and contemporary craft, design, and decorative arts. Zilber holds a BA in art history from The University of Chicago and an MA from the Bard Graduate Center for Decorative Arts, Design History & Material Culture.

AWARDS: 1st Place $1,000, 2nd Place $500, 3rd Place $250 & 2 Mentions of $125 each

Tomatoes, tomatoes everywhere. It is THAT time of the year. The Farmers Market is awash with overly ripe tomatoes at rock bottom prices. When they are less than $1 a pound, I have such a hard not taking them home. We’ve taken to having snacks of sliced tomatoes, tomato sandwiches and marinated tomatoes. Did you know orchids are edible? Many of you have probably seen the sugared variety high atop a wedding cake or as a garnish, but they’re great in salads too. The flavor is a bit like cucumber with the texture of a buttery lettuce and a touch of the bitter bite of endive. Don’t eat orchids given to you as gifts. “The gallery exhibit De La Naturaleza coincides with the Conservatory’s Orchids exhibition, an annual horticulture display that celebrates the beauty and form of the orchid bloom. As the largest family of flowering plants, orchids are a stunning example of the innate tenacity of life. More than 30,000 known species of orchids exist in the wild, with each species possessing distinctive adaptations that have ensured their survival in an ever-changing environment.”

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists age 18+

MEDIA: Ceramics. All work entered must be at least 60% ceramic & cannot exceed 6’ x 6’ x 6’.

THEME: The concept of human balance w/ nature, orchids, or nature in general.

NOTIFICATION: October 12, 2015

ENTRY FEE: $30 for up to 3 ($25 for up to 3 for Conservatory & COCA Members)

JUROR: Sherrie Riley Hawk graduated from Ohio State University with a BS in Accounting & minor degree in Art History. She opened the Riley Hawk Gallery in 1986 specializing in Glass Art. In 2004, Hawk decided to embrace all 3-dimensional art forms & opened a new gallery to exhibit ceramics, wood, fiber & art jewelry. Sherrie Gallerie has participated in nat’l exhibitions throughout the country. Hawk has been invited to jury countless museum exhibitions and art fairs. Sherrie Gallerie mounts at least 10 solo shows a year and is committed to representing the best artists in their fields.

AWARDS: All work selected by the Juror and Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will be included in the Cardinal Health Gallery. Artists will be invited to an Artist Reception. A cash prize of $500 will be awarded to the artist whose work is selected as “Best in Show”, and two “Honorable Mention” prizes will be awarded with a cash prize of $250.

My family enjoys participating in cultural celebrations from around the world. None of us grew up with any sort of specific cultural traditions aside from spaghetti night or BBQ on Father’s Day. So each year we adopt Chinese New Year, Oktoberfest & even the Day of the Dead as our very own. Chinese New Year gives us an extra 6 weeks or so to make plans for the upcoming year (Yes, we really are late to everything –even making resolutions, ha). Dia de Los Muertos offers us a time to tell stories about those we’ve lost. I’ve lost a lot of people lately, and it is a great comfort to take time to celebrate them. Ellen Fisch has shown her fine art architectural photography, Novoimago, extensively in the U.S. Exhibitions include solo & group shows, numerous libraries & galleries in NYC & many other locations. Becky Najafi brings to the juror panel the perspective of an interior designer. Several of her clients have utilized fine art photography & digital art in either their homes or corporate settings.

AWARDS: Best In Competition: $650 USD + Photo Bundle awarded by Alien Skin Software which includes Bokeh, Blow-Up, Exposure 5 and Snap Art 4; an online solo-exhibition; a press release will be sent out by EWW announcing and promoting the results of this competition to contacts that include: major media outlets, trade journals, social media, selected gallery owners and/or directors, corporate art representatives, interior designers and other buying markets. 2nd Place: $100 USD. 3rd Place: $50 USD.
