There is some humor to be found in the idea that someone invested in eating organically would also want a food so tortured & processed that it can spell out words. And, I don’t believe anyone is REALLY teaching their children to read with soup. So do we really need to communicate with food, literally, or am I just a huge hypocrite for constantly preach about the transformative & communicative power of food? Okay, I’m a hypocrite, ha. JUROR: Monika Szewczyk divides her time between writing, editing, curating and teaching. She has contributed essays to numerous catalogues as well as journals such as Afterall, A Prior, C Magazine, Camera Austria, Canadian Art, F.R. David, Mousse, and e-flux journal. From 2008 to 2012, she was head of publications at the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam.

Szewczyk was on the curatorial team of the Vancouver Art Gallery and coordinated programming at the Belkin Satellite, a space of the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery at the University of British Columbia. She is Visual Arts Program Curator at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago.

AWARDS: Up to 32 two-dimensional artists working with paper will be selected to participate in this unique exhibition opportunity. Four works by each selected artist will be displayed over a two-month period, two works per artist, each month.

I prefer thought-out, composed meals with true intention. But, let’s face it…that doesn’t always happen. Today, my lunch included two olive & cream cheese stuffed pieces of celery, a deviled egg, a pickled beet, two slices of fresh tomato and two pickles. The only thing composed was the beautiful square plate. Truly, it was a collage of anything I could find that didn’t have to be cooked. This next Call wants your collage, AND they want it square. He graduated from China Academy of Fine Art (a famous art school in China known as Zhejiang Academy of Fine Art), and he was an honored student in the art school.

As an artist Cheng has traveled to many places in China, Asia, United States, North America, Europe and South America; he uses his artist eyes observing things that he has seen like people and scenery, and he created eye catching, breath taking portraits, landscapes, and still lives with his unique style.

AWARDS: Best of Show : $1000, 2nd Place: $500, 3rd Place: $400, Additional Awards Include: Best Landscape: $100 Best Still Life: $100, Best People: $100, Best Use of Light & Color: $100, Most Innovative: $100, Narrative Excellence: $100.

I am slightly obsessed with the hunt for the perfect piece of land. My husband & I are determined that 2014 will be the year we finally build a house, but we can talk about that adventure later. Right now, I have to find the land. I need land that will both allow for a solar-efficient, south-facing house, but I also need a large enough plot to accommodate our offices, a studio, and a garden, of course–and cheap. I know. Ciao Gallery in association with Graffenburg Gallery will be hosting “Surrealist Manifesto” which will showcase works created by Surrealist artist Michele E. Walters.

Walters works inspiration is drawn from the original Surrealist Manifesto and has received a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council to create her next series which she will feature alongside other preselected Surrealist artists.

This exhibition seeks other surrealist inspired works or any other unique interpretation of the meaning.

ELIGIBILITY: The project encourages anyone from anywhere who want to be a part of it, to participate. Anyone meaning, anyone: kids, parents, students, seniors, writers, artists, dreamers, wanders, the guy next door, the crazy cat lady, the ski bum, the couch surfer, anyone.
