ELIGIBILITY: Proposals for the Main Gallery are open to all interested photographers including, but not limited to Viewpoint members.

MEDIA: Photography

DEADLINE: May 18, 2012

ENTRY FEE: There is no fee for submitting initial on-time proposals. There is no fee for additional two (2) proposals after the initial submission. Submissions after midnight May 18, 2012 will be required to pay late submission fee of $10.00 for the submission to be considered.

The $10.00 fee for late submissions after May 18, 2012 can be paid by using the PayPal button, or calling the gallery during normal hours, and paying with a credit card. A $200.00 rental fee is charged for a one-month exhibit.

JUROR/CURATOR: Viewpoint Photographic Art Center Exhibit Committee will make the selections for both solo and group exhibits.

AWARDS: Exhibits run for approximately 4 weeks and change during the 2nd week of each month. There are 9 slots open for Main Gallery from February 2013 through January 2014.

SALES: Gallery exhibition print sales (60% artist / 40% gallery).

Genetically modified food scares the crap out of me. I understand, economically speaking, why food is modified. But it doesn’t matter how much disease-resistant, mutant corn you can produce if everyone has three heads and glows in the dark. Am I suggest that genetically-modified corn causes these symptoms? No. I am suggesting that none of us know WHAT the end result could be. I’m planting heirloom varieties in my patch in the back yard this year. Treasured

Treasured seeks to reveal the beauty and vulnerability of the endangered and the threatened. From disappearing plant and animal species, to vanishing languages, customs, and cultures, to threatened ecosystems, this exhibit will highlight the intricacies and fragility of precious and vanishing worlds.

The jury seeks artwork that examines these entities, with particular interest in pieces that highlight urgency through delicacy and severity through subtlety, as they honor the distinct beauty inherent to each.

ELIGIBILITY: The exhibition is open to artists age 18 and older working in the U.S.

MEDIA: All media types are welcome; small to large scale; indoors and outdoors.

DEADLINE:
March 31, 2012

NOTIFICATION:
Via email on or before April 16, 2012

ENTRY FEE: Artists must submit a $25 non-refundable entry fee for up to four entries. Entry fee must be paid by check, money order, or credit card. Each entry must be submitted with three images of the artwork, including one overall view of the artwork, one detail shot, and one installation shot. There is a returned check fee of $25.

JUROR: Treasured will be juried by a 1-2 member panel.

AWARDS: Annmarie will present cash awards to outstanding work. Jurors will review installed works (not application images) for award selection. If possible, selection will occur prior to the exhibit opening and awards will be presented at the opening reception. Award amounts are contingent upon sponsorship; typically there are at least three awards ranging from $250-$750 each. All award winning artists will receive an invitation for a solo or group show.

SALES: Works selected for exhibition cannot be removed before the end of the exhibition. Should a sale resulting from the exhibition occur, Annmarie will retain a 40% commission of the listed sale price.

Open to Interpretation is a juried book competition of photography, poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. Each book begins with a themed call for photos. The chosen photos become the literary inspiration for the writers’ submissions. A book is created that matches each winning photo with two stories or poems that offer different interpretations of the image. The unique collaboration adds new dimensions to both the photos and the written word.

JUROR: George Slade has provided fine photographic artists and their audiences with insightful interpretation and curatorial expertise in exhibitions, classes, writings, lectures, and face-to-face exchanges for over 25 years.

Formerly the artistic director of Minnesota Center for Photography, the director of the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Photographers Program, and recently the curator at the Photographic Resource Center in Boston, Slade is a veteran presence at portfolio review events like Fotofest, Photolucida, Critical Mass, PhotoNOLA, and the Society for Photographic Education’s regional and national conferences.

Slade’s writings and reviews appear extensively in print and online; some may be found at his web site, re:photographica. He lives in Minneapolis with his partner Stephanie and their children.

ENTRY FEE: Entry fee is $35. Checks payable to the Northbrook Public Library. A maximum of 3 entries per artist fee will be judged.

JURY PROCESS: Artists should be cognizant that the exhibition is open to the general public and artwork must be viewable for all ages. Pieces will be judged on artistic quality and execution as well as thematic relevance. Artists should consider the theme, “Journeys”.

SALES & COMMISSION: The NPL does NOT charge a commission for show participation. All sales inquires will be referred to the artists. The only sale to be handled by the NPL will be the purchase of the first-place award winner.

Enter the 2012 juried competition for digital art and photography brought to you by the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA).

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is international, open to all geographical locations.

MEDIA: All styles of artwork and photography where digital processes of any kind were integral to the creation of the images are acceptable.

NOTIFICATION: April 2, 2012

ENTRY FEE: Registration fee is $30 US for up to three images. Multiple entries permitted, additional $30 entry fee for each three images.

SUBMISSIONS: All entries must be made online.

JURORS: Nancy Meyer, LACMA, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, L.A. County Museum of Art and Rex Bruce, LACDA, Director and Senior Curator, L.A. Center for Digital Art.

AWARDS: The selected winner receives 10 prints up to 44×60 inches on museum quality paper (approximately a $2,500-$3,000 value) to be shown in a solo exhibition in our main gallery. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artist.

2nd Place: Ten 2nd place winners will receive one print of their work up to 24×36 inches ($150-$200 in value) to be included in upcoming group exhibits. 2nd place winners will be scheduled into a group shows within 12 months of announcement of winners. Consideration is given to placing these works in shows appropriate to their style, genre and/or content. These shows will be widely promoted and will include a reception for the artists.

Special consideration will be given to all entrants for inclusion in future shows at LACDA. Many entrants from past competitions have been included in our exhibits.

Characters and bildungsroman are the flesh and blood of narratives, which link us to our past and help guide our vision of the future. Narrative is a thread which represents, interprets, and shapes our world. Our narrative is often truth for lack of capital-T-Truth as we manipulate it so it may manipulate us. Perhaps most importantly, it is a double-edged sword which grants us access to experiences which may be beyond our reach–independent of space, time, and reality. This exhibition seeks to explore the power of character and narrative through games and art.”

Only few days to the closing date of the third edition of “Take a picture & Travel”, a photography competition organized by the portal Agriturismi.it with the collaboration of the Cultural Association MoCA, created to sensitize the public to the world of the farm houses.

Almost 700 participants, between Italians and foreigners, have answered to the challenge launched by the portal, trying to win the fantastic prize: a nice stay at the Bio Room & Breakfast Cascina alle Rose in Mantua.

ELIGIBILITY: The Award is open to everyone, without any limit of age, sex, nationality or other qualification. Each author can apply with one color or black and white photo.

THEME: Animals and Nature

DEADLINE: March 10, 2012

NOTIFICATION: The winner will be informed by phone call, email, fax or mail, according to the details provided in the registration. For confirming the prize, the winner has 7 days time from the reception of the winning notice email to send a fax of acceptance to the number +30 041 8627948, writing “Competition take a picture and Travel 2012 – Agriturismi.it” enclosing a photocopy of valid ID card containing personal data provided during the registration in the contest. If there is no response after this period, the second person in the classification will be the winner. The prize can be used within a year (excluding high season) from the day of the award giving. Transfer costs to and from the destination and any other cost not specified in the prize, will be charged to the winner.
