I am ever so slightly addicted to bananas.  I like them so green that they are almost crunchy.  I don’t LOVE their taste, but if I don’t have one for three or four days, I really miss them.  Weird, I know.  Something I am not addicted to? Artificial banana flavoring.  Ugh.  Save the fake, plastic-y flavor for a fake monkey.  Okay, that was too easy.  This next call has no entry fee…and even a monkey.  No joking…

Check out this Call for Entries from Mono Mono, (means monkey monkey in Spanish) a NY-based brand, for a show being held at the Gowanus Print Lab.  There is no fee to enter, and who wouldn’t want to monkey around?  Take a look…

Merlot sings to me.  But the next morning, I will harm anyone attempting to sing to me.  I am allergic to the tannins after years of enjoying the taste of an earthy glass at art openings.  Now, just one glass makes me feel like I’ve been hit by a bus.  I still have a glass occasionally and deal with the consequences.  This next Call wants to see how you deal with the consequences.  Fabulous…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Arc Gallery (San Francisco, CA) for Consequences.   This is a great space, AND I LOVE this theme.  For those of us that live life with little thought of the consequences, this is pure fantasy.  Take a look…

I adore Chinese food.  There is nothing better after a hard day of work than a belly full of spring rolls, dumplings and Szechuan shrimp.  But I have just about had it with the printed placemat.  Remember back when they only illustrated the difference between the Year of the Rabbit and the Year of the Rat?  Now they have advertisements for teeth whitening, divorce attorneys and colonics.  Really? Here’s a call that takes best advantage of printing techniques…

Fried chicken livers remind me of Georgia.  I grew up in Georgia on fried foods and my weight IS under control, my cholesterol good.  Of course, it could be argued that my relatively good health is because I left Georgia at age 14, ha.  There are lots of healthy, wholesome places to eat in the Peach State; my relatives’ homes just aren’t among them.  I don’t think you’ll have the pleasure of scarfing down fried chicken livers at the opening for this next Georgia-based call, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you…

CALL for ENTRIES: Oil Painting

My father found steak sauce personally offensive.  He thought that the use of steak sauce was a not so subtle indication that his grilling skills were not up to par.  “The steak is perfect as it is,” he would say at every grilling opportunity.  I suppose it is a lesson learned.  Sometimes a steak is a steak, and a steak should be good enough.  Representational art, FOR ME, can sometimes be likened to a sauceless steak, wonderful as it is…just not my preference.  I know some of you do fantastic representational work, and I have a twinge of guilt that I don’t post more shows for you.  Hopefully this one will make up a little ground…

Vibrant and vibrate have the same latin root word: “vibrare” meaning to move rapidly and rhythmically to and fro. While vibrate means virtually the same thing in English, vibrant has additional connotations as it applies to brightness of light or color, or as in how alive or energetic is the given subject – literally vibrating with life. “

Through a Lens: Vibrant! gives the photographer several options. Vibrant could apply to a light or hue in the composition, or it could apply to the subject, as to a person or in a street. It could even be stretched to apply to the process – check out the vibrance adjustment layer in photoshop. Which definition of “Vibrant!” will you choose?

Audubon, The California Academy of Sciences, The Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, Sunset, Westcliffe, and The Wilderness Society have published his work.

Photographer Michael Collopy is one of the preeminent portrait photographers of our time and has gained worldwide recognition for his commissioned portraits of hundreds of public figures. Boredom is cause for eating at my desk, in my car or on my couch.  I’m not saying that it is healthy behavior, but it is, in fact, MY behavior.  I suppose if my Jeep came equipped with a fridge so that I could munch on carrot stick, yogurt and other healthy goodies, it might be less of a problem.  However, I would settle for less boredom in the car.  This next call offers motorists a better view and you a possible adventure.  Take a look…
