DEADLINE EXTENDED: Darth Vader’s Helmet

Click to Subscribe to www.ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!ANTIPASTI

I might just love NOT cooking more than cooking. Truth be known, it is the EATING that I love, not the cooking.  My sweet husband’s birthday was this week, and a shining example of why I love him… Instead of requesting an elaborately cooked meal that would take hours to prepare, he requested olives, goat cheese, stuffed peppers and Guiness.  Given a second chance, I’d marry him again, don’t cha know?  This next Call gives YOU a second chance with an extended deadline.  Check it out…

Check out this Call for Entries for the Darth Vader Helmet Art Contest from HalloweenCostumes.com!  You can submit your portfolio for FREE regardless of your media.  Someone will think you’re a hero as soon as your helmet arrives…

*Editor’s note:  I know one of you can win this.  Recently, 7 of you entered the Persona show at the Darkroom Gallery… 5 of you got into the show and one of you was Juror’s Choice.  That means the artists that subscribe to AAAD rock!

NUTS for
LOBSTER

When I think of Georgia, I start craving lobster bisque.  Yes, I know that Georgia is the Peach State, but as I have mentioned before… I have peach issues.  Georgia conjures images of trips to Savannah with my mother for glorious lunches at the River House of Caesar salad made fresh at our table, rich and creamy lobster bisque, and a huge slice of pecan pies.  You can’t touch that with peaches.  So this next Call is over 250 miles from Savannah, but it is still Georgia.  If you can’t find the bisque while at the opening, pecan pie can’t be far away…

Farm fresh eggs make me happy the same way daisies make others smile.  The only thing close to farm fresh is a Grade AA (found in upscale restaurants and better grocery stores).  Most of us eat Grade A eggs from the grocery store with flatish, lemony-yellow yolks, but a fresh egg typically has a bright golden yolk that stands tall when cracked.  Years ago, when my husband owned a hot dog shop called the Dog & Cow, he used to trade left over hot dogs (used as chicken feed) for fresh eggs.  The eggs had the wonderful aroma of garlic from gourmet hot dogs.  We KNEW what we were eating, ha.  The gallery in this Call also makes me happy with it’s sort of blatant in-your-face optimism and simplicity.  Take a look…

STICKY SWEET

When I think of salt water taffy, I think of the mountains. Odd, eh? I suspect that salt water taffy got its start on seaside boardwalks, but it seems every small mountain town has a great little store front that lets you watch taffy being made. I know that here in Gatlinburg, there is more than one. I wonder if Blue Ridge, GA (home of this Call) has a taffy shop. Sounds like a great reason to attend the reception…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild for their Annual National Juried Show which will be exhbiited in the Richard Low Evans Gallery in Blue Ridge, GA, one of “America’s Top Art Communities.” I know that discussing art sales is like talking about religion or politics in polite company (in bad taste), but I will say it anyway… this could be a great opportunity to sell some artwork.

I talk a good food game.  My culinary tastes seem brave to some, but they aren’t really.  I know what I like, but I’m a chicken about trying some stuff just like you.  I cannot bring myself to even try something called head cheese.  I get that it is mainly just meat in aspic, but it sounds gross and doesn’t win huge points with me for aesthetics either.  One of you should take a picture of yourself eating head cheese and send it to me.  The first one that does will get a little ad in the side bar for a couple of months.  Make it a good picture though… ’cause I WILL publish it before you get your ad.  I wonder if head cheese is an eligible topic for this next Call for Entries.  Take a look…
