I have kept my word.   I am taking fewer pictures of my food in public.   You would be proud.  I am amazed at how often I’ve finished a dish before it occurred to me “I should have photographed that”.  Maybe I’ve just been too hungry by the time food arrives.  And, while my Insta feed is decidedly less interesting, my food IS warmer.  This next Call wants to know how social media has influenced YOUR work.  Take a look…

I crave comfort food. I have always been an emotional eater, and in my defense, this year HAS sucked. CALL for ENTRIES: Issue 11 Incandescent

The Thanksgiving sea of brown food has passed.  Luckily, my family forgoes the turkey, dressing, gravy & rolls thereby missing out on a good portion of the brownness of it all. I crave color even in my food.  A star of this year’s menu was the beet & clementine salad.  Beets are plentiful year around due to how well they do in cold storage.  If you are one of those folks that swear they dislike beets, make a point to try them fresh roasted.  (Message me for a recipe.)  In the meantime, here’s a call that also craves color.  Take a look…

The freezer saves dinner about two days a week in my house.  We purposefully cook more portions than we can eat and save the leftovers.  It started out as a way to send lunch with my kiddo for school, but it has become a dinner rescue regularly.  When you get busy and have forgotten to plan for dinner and live nearly a half hour from the closest grocery or restaurant, you’re grateful for frozen leftovers.  This next Call is not a leftover or frozen, but I did neglect to plan the publication more than a few days out from the deadline.  Sorry about that…

CALL for ENTRIES: Abstract 3

Learn more about "Abstract 3" from Art-competition.net!FOOD cubed

I recently attended an “abstract” dinner party.  I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into, and that made me MORE eager to attend, ha.  Upon arrival, I found that every dish was comprised of food cut in an identical manner. I couldn’t tell cubes of potato from turnip or cubes of yellow carrot from summer squash.  From appetizer to entree to dessert, it was an evening of simple foods prepared with time-consuming precision.  I was forced to savor the preparation and intent since nothing was representational of its original form.  Abstract food.  Fascinating.
