ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists 18 years and older.

MEDIA: Work may be any subject or medium emphasizing unique composition, pattern, shape, and color/contrast. Maximum size limitations 80″in or 203cm in any direction, Maximum Weight Limitations 150lbs / 68 kg.

NOTIFICATION: February 1, 2012

AWARDS: The talent garnered from last years pool of participants have gone on to be represented for one full year by the Gallore Gallery. Each winner named not only received the title of JOG International or Domestic Winner but also Gallery Representation and a month long solo exhibition.

Dessert wines are one of my many guilty pleasures. Biscotti is not just for dipping into your espresso. I’ll take a lovely glass of vin santo with the lingering taste of honey and apricots with a touch of cream. Keep your coffee or espresso (which traditionally comes before vin santo BTW). If you end up at the opening of the collective exhibit for this next Call, have a glass for me. Better yet, bring me a bottle of vin santo back as a souvenir…it beats a t-shirt anytime!

6th Int’l Arte Laguna Prize

The 6th International Arte Laguna Prize 2011 is dedicated to visual artists worldwide. Prizes amount to 170,000 euros total, and 7,000 in each sector (nearly $10,000 USD), but besides money Arte Laguna Prize offers many opportunities to artists, such as art residencies, personal exhibitions in galleries, collective exhibitions, and attendance at international festivals. There are no limits for age, theme, or topic.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists, without any limit of age, sex, nationality, etc.

MEDIA: Painting, photographic art, sculpture, video/performance, virtual art.

DEADLINE: November 11, 2011

ENTRY FEE: For the partial support of the organization expenses, the application fee is 50 euros (approx $70 USD) for 1 work and 90 euros (approx. $127 USD) for 2 works in the same section, for additional works (in the same section) the fee is 45 euros ea. National Juried Exhibition 2011

The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville announces a call for entries for its National Juried Exhibition of 2011. The National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their work. Approximately 40-50 traditional and non-traditional works will comprise the exhibition in the main gallery of the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from December 12, 2011 – January 27, 2012.

ELIGIBILITY: All artists 18 years and older living in the US.

MEDIA: Entries must be original works completed within the last two years in the following categories: Painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, digital, and mixed media), Graphic Arts (pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, conte, colored pencil, and printmaking), 3D (sculpture, ceramic, and fibers), and Photography.

DEADLINE: Postmarked by October 29, 2011

NOTIFICATION: Mailed November 11, 2011

ENTRY FEE: $40 for up to three works ($25 for Arts & Culture Alliance members). Up to three additional entries may be submitted for $7/each ($5 for members). Diptychs and triptychs are considered one work. Works are juried by digital images only. Each 2D work may be represented by one digital image, and each 3D work may be represented by up to three separate digital images: two full views and one detail view.

JURORS: Holding both a Bachelor and a Master of Fine Arts degree in media art from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Neely Hyde‘s professional arts background includes working for art galleries and magazines in New York City, teaching film and art appreciation UT and Roane State and working as the Director of Exhibits and Media Arts for the Association for Visual Arts. Neely is currently serving as the 2011 instructor and visiting artist for the AVA Reel Stories Documentary Project, teaching video classes and workshops, working as a commercial photographer in Chattanooga and exhibiting her fine art photography around the region.

AWARDS: At least $1,000 in cash awards will be given as designated by the juror, whose decision is final.

Since 2002, GLAAD has produced an annual fundraising art event, OUTAuction, part glamorous cocktail party and part art auction. OUTAuction raises much-needed funds for GLAAD’s ongoing work.

Previous artists whose art works have been auctioned off include: Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Herb Ritts, Ross Bleckner, David LaChapelle, Steven Klein, Ryan McGinness, Karim Rashid, Clodagh, Annie Leibovitz, Karim Rashid, Mario Sorrenti, Peter Max, Rosie O’Donnell, and Patrick McMullan, among many others.

Eggs are are simply hope in food form. From a simple, inexpensive carton eggs can become a homemade mayonnaise, luxurious hollandaise, a bright spring quiche, comfortable omelettes a beautiful, decadently creamy custard just to name a few. I simple love poached eggs with a little sprinkle of fresh-cracked black pepper, but homemade garlicky mayo for a home-grown tomato sandwich runs a close second. JURORS: Catriona Fraser is the owner and Director of the Fraser Gallery. Ms. Fraser serves on the Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District Advisory Panel and on the Board of the Washington School of Photography. Ms. Fraser has served on the Advisory Panel for the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County and is Chair of the Trawick Prize, Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards, a fine art competition that awards $14,000 in prize money to artists residing in Maryland, Washington D.C and Virginia. She is also Chair of the Bethesda Painting Awards, an annual competition that awards $14,000 in prize money to painters residing in D.C, Maryland and Virginia. Ms. Fraser is the Director of the annual Bethesda Fine Arts Festival and served as the President of the Art Dealers Association of Greater Washington from 2009 – 2011.

AWARDS: All accepted work will be exhibited in the DC area gallery. Best in Show – $500, Second place- $250, Third Place – $100, Ten Honorable Mentions. At the end of the exhibition series, all awardee’s photos from each of the three shows will be published as a photo book made available for sale. The top three awardees of each show will be presented with a complimentary copy of the book. All accepted work will also be featured on our website, facebook page, and blog.

SALES: All work must be for sale at prices set by the artist. The Howard Avenue Arts Incubator retains a commission of 40% of sales price. Payment to the artist will be mailed within 30 days after receipt of proceeds from sales. Prices should be an accurate reflection of the artist’s sales history and therefore should not be inflated.

TO EAT

If food tasted as good as commercials make it look, I would have to employ a full-time tailor to keep up with my ever increasing size. There is an art to making food in commercials look appetizing, and it usually means the food can’t be eaten. No joking. This next Call may be the most appropriate that I’ve every published. Food, anyone?

There is no theme for this exhibition. The images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work, rather than individual images. Fifteen photographers will be chosen to display their twelve-image portfolios in the Center’s Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 book and online exhibition. One photographer will be chosen to display their portfolio in the Center’s South Gallery.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all photographers world wide, amateur & professional.

MEDIA: The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions.

NOTIFICATION: October 14, 2011

JUROR: Chris Pichler is the founder and publisher of Nazraeli Press. Based in Portland, OR, Nazraeli publishes contemporary photography books.

AWARDS: Each participant will be included in the Center’s Online Gallery exhibition as well as published in the Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 Book. Select artists also will receive a blog feature at the Center’s blog. The juror will select one portfolio to be the first presented in the book and will select an image from the portfolio to be the book cover. Who doesn’t love maple syrup? I am a little embarrassed to admit that I instantly think “maple” when I think of Canadian food. A country with such a rich multi-cultural food tradition (not the least of which is French) deserve more consideration. Nonetheless, I think of maple treats. My in-laws go fishing in Canada every year, and I can always count on a bounty of maple candy and syrup upon their return. But, I’m running a little low this year. CALL for ENTRIES: Mail Art Exhibition

Artists from all over the world are invited to contribute their work for the Richmond Art Gallery’s Mail Art Exhibition and Swap. This exhibition is intended to be a cultural exchange, where artists exhibit their works and receive new works as part of a swap. This shared enterprise is free from the rules of the art market, and yet we ask artists to respond to the theme of “economy” in all its forms.

Mail Art (aka Postal Art) is an art form where artists exchange artworks and correspondence through the mail to one another. The historical roots of Mail Art can be traced back to the Fluxus art movement of the 1960s, where several artists associated with the Fluxus movement began to work with Mail Art as the non-commercial exchange of creative ideas, correspondence and images in mailable formats that existed outside of the gallery system. In the 1970s Mail Art grew as an international art movement, and continues on nowadays with the help of the internet.

To continue on in the tradtion of this democratic art form, all entries received that follow the guidelines on the entry form will be exhibited.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Mail art up to 3 artworks (2D ONLY), sized 5″ x 5″ (120 x 120 mm)

DEADLINE: October 1, 2011

NOTIFICATION: All Hung

ENTRY FEE: None, except return postage to get your artwork swap. $3 Canadian or the equivalent. Canadian residents can send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

AWARDS: Artwork will be traded at the end of the exhibit, and you will receive a ‘swap’. All artwork will be displayed on their online gallery for one year. Your entry into this exhibition signifies that you agree to the swap and having your work displayed online.

CRAZY for BISCUITS

I am grateful that I never have to attempt making biscuits again. I went to cooking school for a year, and it was popular to characterize the pastry folk, and anyone who made bakery goods as a little wacky. The popular theory was they snorted too much flour. However, I found this characterization an easy rationalization for why I can’t make biscuits –clearly, I am too sane to master the task. Luckily, my crazy mother taught my crazy husband how to make biscuits, and I don’t ever have to do it again. This Call wants to know what makes you feel gratitude. I’d be grateful for a glass of artisan wine right now…

This fall, Tin Barn Vineyards—one of Sonoma’s most popular artisan wineries—will host its first fine art photography exhibition. Welcoming a broad range of perspectives and artistic styles, Thanks/AnyWay encourages artists to share their strongest interpretations of the theme of gratitude. The exhibition will open during the annual “Holiday in Carneros”celebration, which draws hundreds of visitors. Images will continue to be on display in their winery cellar and tasting room through New Year’s Day. Proceeds benefit Pathway Home, a local recovery center for veterans.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Photography

DEADLINE: September 25, 2011

NOTIFICATION: October 2, 2011

ENTRY FEE: Each three entries must be accompanied by $20 fee, payable via PayPal (wine@tinbarnvineyards.com) or check to the winery. No limit on entries.
