I’ve always played with my food.  As a small kid, I loved making faces, and as a teenager, mashed potatoes and gravy just screamed for a castle and moat.  As an adult, my child is only mildly amused by smiley face pancakes and strange hair formed in syrup.  This next Call wants to see your strange figures, but I don’t think they’re looking for food art.  You be the judge…

I am a hypocritical health food junkie.  I am the arrogant jerk that gives you sideways looks in the grocery line as you pile bacon, potato chips and pop tarts on the conveyor belt.  Afterall, you will be in the parking lot as I am hiding my Moon Pies under my bag of kale.  Sorry; it is hypocritical, I know.  I just want to live forever.  I want if for you too.  The majority of my groceries are whole foods, healthy or leafy and green.  But I never leave without a sugary indulgence.  This next Call needs you alive too.  Stay healthy…

No Dead Artists

No Dead Artists turns that notion on its head and gives emerging artists their first break in the art world. In the 90’s, the exhibition was open only to New Orleans artists and subsequently grew to include artists of Louisiana. In 2010, the exhibition expanded to become a national juried exhibition open to artists from the entire United States.

Each year, hundreds of artists submit thousands of works with the hope of being in the select few to exhibit at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery. The exhibition is reviewed annually by D. Eric Bookhardt (Artpapers and Gambit Weekly). The opening reception marks the beginning of the arts season in New Orleans and is attended by thousands of art enthusiasts.

Learn more from the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery! The exhibition was created in 1995 to give a voice to emerging artists. a cold one

My husband usually picks out his own beer.  He’s a home brewer and more than a little picky about his commercially made beer.  But, on occasion, I pick up a “Pick 6” pack from the grocery store.  My rule of thumb is to pick 3 beers I’ve actually seen him consume, and the other 3 I pick out based on the design of the label.  No joke.  Works EVERY time.  If you understand beer labels, then you might also know why it is no surprise when people judge a book by its cover.  This next Call is just for you…

Check out this Call for Entries from the 3×3 Magazine for the Picture Book Show.   I love this show.  There are phenomenal designers and illustrators who never get their due.  Maybe this is the chance

I am addicted to No Pudge Fudge brownie mix.  I’ve mentioned it before, I know.  They are the best brownies I’ve ever eaten (from a mix), and they are all natural.  It is the shortest ingredient list ever.  I’ve tried the original, raspberry and cappuccino, but I still haven’t tried the mint because I have to order them and have them shipped to me.  Food by mail isn’t usually my thing, but I may give in eventually.  However, in this next Call, no shipping is a HUGE advantage in my book.  Check it out…
