OR NOT TO DUNK

I just want an Oreo® today.  I miss them.  Damn the wheat allergy.  I hear Glutino makes a fantastic chocolate sandwich cookie.  But, it can’t be an Oreo® can it?  If it could, it would just be called a gluten-free Oreo.  I might give in eventually if my kiddo insists, but for me it is a black and white issue.  This next Call is definitely a black and white issue as well.  Love this mag…

MOO AT ME

I one of those folks that orders RARE beef and expects it to actually BE rare.  I don’t understand why anyone would choose to eat pork, beef or lamb anything other than rare or medium rare.  But, I have been outdone.  Have you heard about the guy that has eaten nothing but raw or rotten meat for the last five years?  OMG, that’s walking a little too far on the dark side for me.  But, this next Call might really be the perfect place to let your dark side hang out.  Take a look…

FOODS

Like everyone, I have kitchen horror stories.  I still relive slicing my finger open while opening a package of fish.  I rushed to the hospital hoping to have the “clean cut” glued instead of stitched so that it wouldn’t interfere with my looming art deadline, only to be left in the waiting room so long they couldn’t glue it.  Plus, there’s the horror of having burned everything imaginable.  BTW, the most expensive foods burn easiest.  You’ve got horror stories of you own, whether real or imagined, and this next Call wants to hear AND see them.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Bruce Humphries for Art School Horror Stories (art publication).  You’ve either got stories of your own or have heard them from your peers.  So, here’s your chance to put them out there in either written word or image.  This should be fun…

me

If I had to choose one food to represent me as a person, I would possibly die of indecision. But, since my food ramblings are only the fluff of why readers come to this site, and you don’t have enough time to wait…let’s will say just for argument’s sake that goat cheese would represent me perfectly. Soft but with an edge, getting a little more tart with age, not for everyone, but goes well with almost anything. Goat cheese is me. If goat cheese isn’t you, don’t worry. This next Call offers you a chance for a year-long representation. Investigate…

Check out this Call for Entries from Melissa Wolf Fine Arts (online) for the Represent, and opportunity for a year of representation. This is a very new online venue; however, I had some personal success with their last call. So, at least take a look…

Amantha Tsaros
Monotype & Acrylic Painting
Acrylic Painting by Amantha Tsaros
Tarre
Monotype
We carry unseen struggles. TSAROS gives form to the internal life in paint. Bringing emotional and spiritual states to light are more important to me than depicting any physical likeness.

Her current series, Bigger Spirits/Square Souls, features organic forms that dance, float or slowly ebb with life. Through paint and monotype, the shapes and marks in the images recall spirits; forces that carry us through our days or challenge us mightily.

SHALLOT
on the fire

Vacation has not been kind to my figure.  Tomorrow is the last day of my summer vacation at Lake Lure (Dirty Dancing & Last of the Mohicans were filmed here), and I am already trying to figure out tomorrow’s food schedule and we’ve just finished with today’s brunch.  What is it about being out of town that leads to over-indulgence and gluttony?  Maybe I need another treat to figure it out. Menu planning is great in theory.  I do it most weeks only to end up picking out dinner much like throwing a dart at a dart board.  I open the frig, find a miscellaneous ingredient like fava beans and base an entire meal on it.  It is part laziness and part indecisiveness.  My taste buds often object to my meal planning.  Hmph.  What’s a girl to do?  I don’t know either.  This next Call involves a dARTboard of its own.  Take a look…
