-ish

It is finally warm enough to be seeing a few normal tomatoes at the market.  I have suffered through a winter FULL of day-glow tomatoes that are hard as rocks and completely tasteless.  I think out-of-season growers spray them with something to make them have an appealing color, but they just end up disappointing when I get them home.  Do not disappoint the purveyors of this Next Call with a lack of color.  Investigate…

Check out this Call for Entries from Digital Arts: California for True Colors 2 for digital work of any variety. The entry fee is very reasonable, and even if you don’t make it to the exhibit, you could end up in the online gallery. Take a look…

POPCORN
and peanuts

I eat popcorn almost everyday.  My most recent obsession is dousing it with loads of chili powder, but for a long time, it was Parmesan cheese.  Popcorn is a memory trigger food for me; my Dad ate it every night with garlic salt with a side of Coke with peanuts (or Tab).  It’s a Southern thing.  What are your memory triggers?  This next Call wants to know…

I’m amazed by the trivial information I learn from the paper placemats at my favorite Chinese restaurant.  I know the ins and outs of the Chinese Calendar.  I know I was born in the Year of the Rat.  And now that they have incorporated a local map for visitors to the area, I now know where all the trolley stops are located and where I can park for free.  Never discount the importance of a map…or a placemat.  This next Call is all about the map, not the placemat…

Check out this Call for Entries from Riverside Arts Center (Ypsilanti, MI) for Map It, a juried exhibition for map lovers.  This isn’t a theme I run across very often despite how many of you incorporate maps into your works.  Investigate this one…

I was so excited for Spring to arrive. Well, Spring is here, and I actually contemplated having chili for dinner.  The forecast in Gatlinburg actually hints that we might have snow flurries in May.  It makes me want to high-tail it to the closest coast for seafood and sandy feet.  Maybe I should enter this next show so I have an excuse to visit the Coast for the opening.  Investigate…
