EGGY

How is it that quiche became girly food?  I was at a cafe recently that specializes in quiche.  The waitress was reciting the day’s specials to a neighboring table of guests when the man interrupted her to say, “I’m not interested in quiche; I’m a MAN.” Really?  It is eggs, cream and cheese.  I thought, “Maybe it is due to the pie form.”  But, men eat pie, right?  I don’t understand his reasoning, but I restrained myself from asking for the sake of the man sitting at my table.  Maybe this next Call is looking for the quiche-goodness in women only.  Maybe.  Investigate…

Your mayonnaise is a great judge of character.  No, really, I haven’t lost my mind.  If you’re not vegan, and you hate mayonnaise, it is probably because you’ve never had anything but the homogenized, bland, store-bought variety.  Real mayonnaise, if fresh, is made of three simple ingredients: egg yolks, oil & acid.  I prefer farm-fresh eggs, olive oil and lemon.  The are hundreds of combinations each with their own quirks and complexities.  Mayo-making is an foodie’s artisan craft, and this next Call is a celebration of fine craft from basketry to furniture and everything in between.  Take a look…

My husband is a tea drinker, and it is my fault.  So, I don’t like the smell of brewed coffee.  (I hear the nasty emails being pecked out on keyboards across the world.)  I haven’t drank a cup of coffee in 18+ years.  I think brewed coffee smells like skunk spray.  No joke.  So for a long time, my husband used a French press because the odor was lessened.  But then the plunger on the press broke, and neither of us ordered a new one.  Now, he drinks Earl Grey every morning.  I feel a little bad.
