There are always folks out there lately screaming about the dangers of free and low cost calls. I get accused of being all hearts and rainbows, but I think there is enough negativity out there. You’re smart. Read the fine print. Don’t refuse to enter because it is scary. If we didn’t try scary stuff, no one would ever have tried kiwi.  This next call can be entered for next to nothing.  I say… take a chance, but remember to always read the fine print

my BELLY?

I am not a beer drinker.  Yet, I am married to a home brewer of beer.  Go figure.  I’ve never been fond of many beers with the exception of Red Stripe and Grolsch, prefering wine instead.  Interestingly enough, I love the smell of beer.  This next Call is for a space just under a boozer (UK slang for a bar), just in case you want a tasty bite along with a pint.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from The Rumsey Wells (Norwich, UK) for Submit & Exhibit 2 at Art in the Underbelly.  If you like unsual show spaces and are looking for a show across the pond…You can’t beat this entry fee!

Submissions are sought from artists and creative practitioners and anyone who makes work that they think would fit the space.

I’ve never been much of a milk drinker.  So it is easy to forget how much dairy I consume. I recently had to start taking Cipro, a really strong antibiotic, to try to knock out a irritatingly persistent ear infection, and it can’t be taken with dairy products.  I’m on day 5 of a 10 regiment, and I had no idea it would make my life so complicated.  Speaking of dairy, did you know that Monterey Jack cheese was made by the Mexican Franciscan friars of Monterey, California, during the 19th century?  If you go to the opening of your solo show that you got by sending a proposal to this Call, let me know if they still make it there.  Better yet, pick some up for me…

Check out this Open Call for Proposals from the Monterey Peninsula College Art Gallery in Monterey, CA.  The entry fee is extremely low, and if you’re looking for a solo show…this could be your opportunity!

DIPLOMACY STINKS

It is a happy, shiny New Year, and I am excited about the possibilities.  Per usual, I am optimistic about the future… nauseatingly optimistic, according to my husband Jon.  However, most folks will also tell you that my attitude toward life is often like my taste in food…direct, unapologetic and undiplomatic.  Can food be unapologetic and undiplomatic?  Have you ever met a cheese named Limberger?  That sort of straight forwardness is what drew me to this next Call.

Check out the Call for Entries from the Light, Space & Time Gallery for their online Seascapes competition.  You know that I am not a huge fan of online competitions; however, I think of this as digital publication which is always a good thing.  The entry fee is dirt cheap, and the value of inbound links to your website is priceless.  Take a look…
