PICK ME

Not every weed is to be plucked and discarded.  Hopefully no one is spraying chemicals on their garden--either to fertilize OR remove pests; however, I DO want to encourage you to remember that not every weed needs to be removed either.  Chickweed is a perfect example.  If you’re lucky enough to have it sprout in your garden, don’t weed it…eat it.  And you don’t have plant a garden in an open field to find this gem; it even grows in the cracks of sidewalks.  No really.  This next Call DOES, however, make use of an open field.  Investigate…

SEASON

It is ramp season in the Smoky Mountains.  I am thrilled to have a locally-grown, fresh vegetable of any sort after the winter of snow & ice we just endured–even if it gives us all dragon breath.  If you aren’t familiar, ramps are spring onions with a strong garlic smell and onion flavor.  They are called “spring leeks” elsewhere.  We’re using them in salads, soups, casseroles and atop nearly every dish consumed in my house right now.  You name it, we’re finding a way to eat them.  Another sign of Spring is this next Call.  Maybe this one is for you…

I have weekly menus for breakfasts, lunches & dinners.  I tried being spontaneous by buying pieces & parts in the right amounts & putting it together on the fly.  But, I only made it one summer.  I have learned if I don’t make a plan & do the prep each morning, we end up eating lazy.  That means pizza or wings or burgers, and that’s not always the best choice–even homemade.  For now, I’ll keep my impromptu moments out of my kitchen and leave them to my art.  How about you?

To capture in an instant, an unexpected scene, the unscripted interaction, serendipitous magic in a single shot.

The medium of photography skillfully lends itself to chance.  In certain instances the medium is defined by how rapidly a single shot can be fired and, in turn, art created.

Just as an improv actor steps onto the stage without any thoughts or goals is his/her head we are looking for the images you took off the cuff that the very telling, thoughtful and insightful ones.
