CALL for SUBMISSIONS: All Hung Art Blizzard

BLIZZARDY

As I sit and compose this post today, I have been watching it snow for hours. All day yesterday and today it has been the Tennessee equivalent of a blizzard. I am warmed by the idea that chili awaits me for dinner along with a snowman cupcake for dessert. This next call involves an entirely different kind of blizzard.

Check out this Call for Submissions to the Art Blizzard, an all-hung show whose proceeds go to support the art galleries at State University of New York (SUNY). If you need a resume builder, here’s an all hung show in New York. In addition to adding to your resume, you get to support the arts and get a little online publicity to boot. Take a look!

CALL for Submissions: Art Blizzard

Art Blizzard is a non-juried show inviting participants nationally and internationally to donate five 5 x 5 inch works on paper in support of the Galleries. The title of the exhibit envisions a blizzard of artwork in lieu of snow. All donated artwork will remain on sale at the online Marketplace. The art will be installed in the Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery and posted in the Art Blizzard online gallery. Donations of $20 can made on site or online and the donor shall receive a work of their choice.

ELIGIBILITY: The exhibition is open to all working artists. Entries must be original works of art.

SUBMISSIONS: Submit jpeg digital images of 5 works that 5” x 5” to Art Blizzard link on the llbgalleries.geneseo.edu website. Each image must be uploaded in two sizes: 80×80 and 250×250. And image quality 300 ppi. If you do not complete this stage your artwork will not appear in the Art Blizzard online gallery.

Each image file should be labeled as: lastname-firstname1.jpeg (providing numbers 1 -5 for each image submitted). Email digital submissions to: llbgalleries@geneseo.edu

GUIDELINES: All entries must be UNFRAMED. Size specifications: 5” x 5”. Maximum number of submissions is 5. 2-Dimensional work is preferred. 3-Dimensional work is accepted but must be light weight and able to be mounted on a wall with pins.

All artwork will be mounted on a wall with pins. All signatures must appear on the BACK of the artwork. Submission forms must be completed online along with digital images of artwork.

DEADLINE: Artwork must be delivered no later than January 21, 2011 by 5 p.m.

MEDIA: 2-Dimensional media and lightweight wall mountable 3D artwork

PUBLICITY: The LLB Galleries may use images of artwork for publicity purposes. By submitting your work to this exhibition you agree that reproduction of digital files and photographs can be used for archival, educational and publicity purposes.

DONATION in lieu of ENTRY FEE: The artwork submitted to Art Blizzard will be available to the public for a donation of $20. All proceeds will benefit the exhibition program of LLB Galleries.

ABOUT THE GALLERIES: The Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery in William A. Brodie Hall and the Lockhart Gallery on Main Street present both contemporary and historic rotating exhibitions, including works by local, regional and national artists, and by faculty and student artists.

The Bridge Gallery, a unique space bridging two wings of Brodie Hall, exhibits student work. Geneseo’s tradition of interweaving liberal and professional education began in 1867, when the state legislature passed an act authorizing the location of a “normal” (or teacher training) school.

In 1871, Geneseo welcomed its first students to the Wadsworth Normal and Training School, offering instruction to would-be teachers. CALL for ENTRIES: 13th Annual Baker Arts Center

CHOPS AGAIN?

Can you imagine liking something enough to do it 13 times in a row? I have an unnatural, and probably unhealthy, addiction to lamb, but I couldn’t have it 13 times in a row. The folks producing this next call for entries, clearly love your artwork more than I love lamb chops, because this is their 13th Annual Call.

We know that I love a theme…from food to art shows. I went grocery shopping the other day and EVERYTHING I bought was marked “bold” or “hot” or “spicy.” However, I truly understand the privilege of interpretation. My version of hot (4 peppers on the Thai scale) is certainly different that my eleven year old that thinks Bold Manwich is spicy, ha. This next call is completely up to YOUR interpretation and choice. The options are wide open…

BWAC has a truly unique gallery – a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords them the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and they welcome it.

They will be using 8,000 square feet for this show to exhibit work from artists from all around the country, work in all size, subject, and medium (it’s completely wide open).

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older.

MEDIA: This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2D and 3D media, except for film/video. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. Note: Crafts, kit work or reproductions after original works in other media (such as giclee), unless used as part of a mixed media work, will not be considered. No work done in class or under supervision is eligible.

ENTRY FEE: Early Bird Submissions (through January 4, 2011): $45.00 for up to three (3) images ($60.00 if mailed) plus $5.00 for each additional image.
Submissions between January 5 and January 17: $65 for up to three (3) images, plus $5 for each additional image. All submissions must be online during this period.

JUROR: Nathan Trotman, Associate Curator, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Art, joined the curatorial staff in 2001. He holds a Master of Philosophy from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where he focused on performance, photography, and time-based art, and is a graduate of the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program.

Among the exhibitions he has curated are Haunted: Contemporary Photography / Video / Performance; Catherine Opie: American Photographer, and he served as assistant curator for Spanish Painting from El Greco to Picasso: Time, Truth and History; exhibitions on David Smith, Richard Serra and Constantin Brancusi; and the acclaimed Matthew Barney: The Cremaster Cycle.

AWARDS:

BEST of SHOW: $1000.00 At the Opening Reception, the artist whose work is juried as ‘Best of Show’ by Nathan Trotman will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a complimentary one-year BWAC membership.

I would eat out almost every day if I could afford it–not because I don’t like to cook. I would eat out for the accessibility. An entire world of cuisine is out there, and so many opportunities to get it from those who do it best are in the most unlikely of places. The world, after all, is your oyster. I feel the same sense of passion about the accessibility of art. I love to find an unexpected master piece in the most unusual of places. Here’s an opportunity…

Check out this Call for Entries for the 10th Annual National Juried Exhibition from the Rome Art Coterie. The venue? River City Bank. With a reasonable entry fee, prizes that range from $100 to $1000 and a sales commission of only 35%, I say go for it!

CALL for ENTRIES: 10th Annual National Juried Exhibition

ELIGIBILITY: All artists must be 18 years of age or older and reside in the continental United States. Any traditional or non traditional two dimensional or three dimensional medium or style, including but not limited to painting, drawing, fiber art, clay, metal, stone, printmaking, and mixed media may be submitted. Work must be current since 2007 and CANNOT have previously been shown in a Rome Art Coterie juried show. Plexiglas must be used in place of regular glass when shipping artwork normally exhibited under glass. DO NOT USE: Styrofoam peanuts as packing material.

SUBMISSIONS: Up to three pieces of artwork may be submitted for consideration.

All entries must be submitted on CD. Slides are not accepted.

Each CD must provide title of work, artist’s name, medium, and size. Each entry must correspond with entries listed on entry form.

Do not send images depicting “detail” of 2D work. Each three dimensional work may be represented by up to three images.

ENTRY FEE: $30 nonrefundable fee

AWARDS: First Place $1,000, Second Place $300, Third Place $200. Five Honorable Mentions: $100.

Awards will be presented at the opening reception. Images on CD will be used for jurying show acceptance only.

JUROR: Michael Marling de Cuellar is an Associate Professor of Art at North Georgia College and Sate University. Marling de Cuellar’s works have been exhibited nationally and internationally and are featured in both private and corporate collections here and abroad.

As a curator he developed the Southern Printmaking Biennale which is a survey of contemporary printmaking in America.

A CROCK FOR EVERY POT

I am the queen of the crock pot. I have Lemon Chicken in the crock pot as I write this post. I love Fall and Winter because they provide the perfect excuse to through lots of things in the crock pot and call is soup or chowder or stew. And in my kitchen next to the crock pot (when it is stored on top of my cabinets) is two of my favorite pieces of found-object assemblage–toasters covered in journal pages and a virtual crock pot of other brick-a-brack.

Here’s your chance to cook up a masterpiece of your own. This Call for Entries from The Renaissance Center in Dickson, TN is for a show called Spare Parts. It doesn’t have to be kitchen-themed, but it does have to be found objects or assemblage. Check it out!

Roswell, New Mexico

Well known by artists as the “Gift of Time”, the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program was established in 1967 to provide gifted studio based visual artists with the unique opportunity to concentrate on their work in a supportive, collegial environment for a whole year. This “gift of time” allows artists to work without distraction in an effort to break new ground and focus on individual goals.

The Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program serves as a contemporary counterpoint to the traditional arts of the Southwest, reinforces the Program’s interest in strengthening the vitality of art in New Mexico and has been a catalyst in broadening community understanding of contemporary art.

CURRENT DEADLINE: December 1, 2010

MEDIA: In-residence grants are offered to artists involved in painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, installation and other fine art media. Grants are not made in the disciplines of performance art or production crafts.

HOUSING & STUDIO FACILITIES: The studios are large, open spaces that measure approximately 20’x25’x10′. These areas are well-lighted and convertible to the artist’s requirements within reason. The printmaking facility is a small, fully operational studio – basically lithographic/etching in nature.

Artists are housed in a complex of six houses and 10 studios located on forty acres of land. Each artist is provided with a house that can amply accommodate either a single person or a family. Rent, utilities (except telephone), repairs and maintenance costs are borne by the Program. Houses are furnished with major furniture items, appliances and utensils. (continued below)

STIPEND: A stipend, or living allowance, of $800 per month is offered along with $100 per month for every dependent living with the grantee. Currently, the cost of art materials is borne by the grantee.

CALL for ENTRIES: 2011 Annual Juried Show

CAKE FOR EVERYONE

Aside from food, there are a few themes that run through my blog posts. Entering academic shows can be a huge plus for all artists…but I find that emerging artists, regardless of age, really benefit most. If you get juried in to an academic exhibition, make every effort to attend the opening. You’d be amazed by how much you can learn by being a fly on the wall when no one knows you’re there. And remember, sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too…academic settings are great for art sales.

Check out this great Call for Entries for Chowan University‘s National Juried Exhibit for 2011. The entry fee is a little higher than I would like, but the juror is great and the opening is in January when many commercial galleries are on a bit of a hiatus. Take a look…

Chowan University’s National Juried Exhibition 2011

ELIGIBLE WORK: The exhibition is open to all artists, 18 years or older, residing within the United States. All work must be original and created without the aid of an instructor. Paintings, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, original hand-made prints, photography, and drawings are all acceptable media for submission.

All two dimensional work must be framed or created on a gallery wrapped canvas. Each artist may submit up to three pieces for consideration.

SUBMISSION FORMAT: All entries must be submitted digitally via CD. Images must be saved as JPEGS at 72 dpi. Additionally, images should not be longer than 900 pixels in any direction and CDs must be viewable from a Mac or PC computer. The CD itself should be clearly labeled with your contact information: name, address, phone number, and email address. The saved images on the CD must be saved as such:

Please note that CDs will not be returned and will become the property of the Department of Visual Art at Chowan University. Images of accepted work may be used for marketing purposes.

LIMITATIONS: Works must not exceed 4 feet (48 inches) in any direction, and must not exceed 40 lbs. All 2D work must include suitable hanging mechanisms, and either be framed or created on a gallery wrapped canvas. All 3D work must be assembled and ready for exhibition upon arrival. We reserve the right to reject work for the exhibition that differs significantly from the submitted images and/or for craft issues.

LIABILITY: The gallery staff will take great care in handling artworks for exhibition. The University, gallery staff, and Department of Visual Art are not liable for any damage that may occur.

SHIPPING (please read carefully): The artist is responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. Call tags for returning artwork must be prearranged by the artist. Shipped works need to arrive at the gallery between January 10-14, 2011. To arrange hand delivery/ pick up please contact Carolyn Phillips at phillc@chowan.edu.

Work will not be returned to the artist if:
– no call tag is issued by the artist or
– if the artist does not prearrange pick up and retrieve the work by Friday, March 4.

Specific shipping and labeling details will be included upon notification of accepted entries.

JUROR: Maxine Payne is a photographer living and working in Arkansas, where her grandparents raised her. She received her M.F.A from the University of Iowa where she was also an Iowa Arts Fellow. Payne was selected a Fellow of the American Photography Institute at New York University, as well as a Fellow of the College Art Association.

Payne works to find ways to engage community in her work and speaks to the idea of place. Her work has been shown nationally. Currently, Maxine is an Associate Professor of Art and Departmental Chair at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Payne has worked on photographing Arkansas Historic Bridges for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department since 2004.

ENTRY FEES and MATERIALS: Artists are allowed to submit up to three (3) artworks for consideration, and the exhibition fee is $40.00. The Department of Visual Art Gallery does not take commission on artworks that are sold. CALL for ENTRIES: Ex Arte Equinus 4

Someone emailed me an appreciative note about my recent post featuring a rubber chicken. I explained that finding Calls for Entry day after day was far easier than figuring out how to make a food reference day after day. There have only been a few that I wasn’t particulary proud of like the Rice A Roni reference to San Francisco. Nothing against Rice A Roni…it just wasn’t a creative reference. So here I am…horses? Carrot, folks. That’s all I’ve got.

CALL for ENTRIES: Ex Arte Equinus 4

Ex Arte Equinus is an international art competition dedicated to presenting the equine as fine art. The amount of equine artists working today is astounding. Ex Arte Equinus is a chance for artists worldwide to have their work recognized in a fine art format, in a competition that will provide equine artists the opportunity to compete and have their work seen on an international level.

Images of winning artwork will be published in issue #12 of Art Horse Magazine (published March 2011). Winners and selected images will also be published in a limited edition hardback book about the show, available from Art Horse Magazine.

ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to artists worldwide. Open to artists 17 years and older. All artwork must be original work executed by the artist. Works produced by non-human artists are not eligible. Works based on a photograph must have the photographer’s permission before entering that work. Works must include a suggestion of an equine form in the image submitted (i.e. a still life painting of tack or hunting dogs would not be acceptable for this show). Previously submitted works are welcome, however works that placed or appeared in any previous Ex Arte Equinus competition or book are not eligible.

CATEGORIES: All artists will compete for the awards in these categories (note that multimedia pieces should be entered based on predominant media):

Paintings: Includes watercolors, oils, acrylics, and any other ‘wet’ traditional or non-traditional painting media. This category does not include “digitally painted” pieces or electronically-generated art for this competition. Any image entered into an inappropriate division will be moved by the jurors into the correct division at the time of judging without penalty to the artist.

Drawings: Includes drawings, pastel, charcoal, etchings, and other traditional or non-traditional types of ‘dry’ drawing media. This category does not include “digitally drawn” pieces or electronic art for this competition. Any image entered into an inappropriate division will be moved by the jurors into the correct division at the time of judging without penalty to the artist.

Sculpture: Includes 3-dimensional works completed using traditional or non-traditional materials. Copies of originals are accepted for cast media (such as bronze, wax, ceramics, or resin) if they are submitted as entries by the sculpting artist only.

Digital Art: Includes any artwork completed digitally, including digital image that has a photograph as its base, such as an image heavily reworked or texturized with Photoshop, any images with painted or pasted backgrounds, foregrounds, layers, or subjects, and any image which is entirely computer-drawn or computer-created. Digital collages are included in this division. Please review the qualifications for the Photography division below if you have questions. Any image entered into an inappropriate division will be moved by the jurors into the correct division at the time of judging without penalty to the artist.

Photography: Includes digital or film photography (alternative film or traditional film types of images and /or processing), color or black and white. Photo should include the image or suggestion of a real, live horse in some way. Artists may be asked to provide the original file if a digital image is in question as to the amount of reworking. Any image entered into an inappropriate division will be moved by the jurors into the correct division at the time of judging without penalty to the artist.

Selected works and information about the show will be printed in a color hardbound book that will be available on the Art Horse Magazine website.

Send your files via email to: exarte_images@gmx.com (total size per email is 15mb, so you may need to send multiple emails.) DO NOT send images prepared for web pages or internet viewing. For flatwork (paintings, drawings, photos, digital), submit one image per entry, with a limit of 12 entries per artist. For sculptures: Multiple views of your piece may be needed to sufficiently show the piece in entirety (i.e. front and side views). Submit up to two images per entry, with a limit of 12 entries per artist. Please name your files with Artist’s last name, entry number, and view number (i.e. Smith_1_1.jpg, Smith_1_2.jpg, etc.)

ENTRY FEES:

$30.00 per artist will include up to 3 entries. Additional entries up to twelve may be added at $10.00 each.

USEAGE RIGHTS: By submitting for jurying, artists grant Art Horse Magazine permission to use the submitted images in publication of issue 10 of Art Horse Magazine, in online display and printed promotion about the competition only (such as informational booklets sent to sponsors etc.), and in publication of the show programme. Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated here without further compensation from Art Horse Magazine. Artist and title recognition is always included at use.

AWARDS: Prizes include rosettes for first place through third place for each category. First place and overall winners receive custom glass awards and one copy Ex Arte Equinus IV programme book will be awarded to each first place artist and overall Award winners. A GOOD EGG

We all know that I love food, but it occured to me that I don’t mention that I love cooks and chefs often enough. There is little better in this world than a well crafted Eggs Benedict. And, while the eggs are best when farm fresh, hollandaise in the wrong hands is just BAD regardless of how fresh the eggs are. I feel much the same about craft artisans.

A scarf isn’t always just a scarf…ask Pat K. Thomas. And certainly, jewelry isn’t always just jewelry…ask Vanessa Walilko. It is art, and I salute the craft artisans that turn raw materials into the phenomenal. Check out this great Call for Entries for the 17th Annual RAGS Juried Wearable Art Show. 17th Annual Juried Wearable Art Show and Sale

The RAGS 2011 event will take place March 10-13, 2011, at Mercedez-Benz of Tacoma.
MEDIA & ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists working in wearable art–garments, fashion accessories, & jewelry.

DEADLINE: Postmarked by December 17, 2010

ENTRY FEES: Two entry types:

Gallery $15: with awards competition, is a show of unique, one-of-a-kind, wearable art with competitive divisions for garments, jewelry, and accessories. The Gallery items must be designed and produced solely by the artist.
Marketplace $35: a boutique-style sale of wearable art. All works entered in this division must be priced for sale by the artist.

JURY PROCESS: All initial entries are juried by digital images. Accepted gallery entries are judged for award from actual works in late February 2011.

CALL for ENTRIES:
2010 20″x20″x20″
A National Compact Competition and Exhibit

This is a competitive juried exhibition in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. It is sponsored by the LSU Student Union Art Gallery Advisory Committee.

Expected attendance is 3,000 visitors.

The LSU Student Union Art Gallery Advisory Committee, composed of volunteer LSU students, faculty, staff and community members, is responsible for the selection of art exhibits and programs in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery. They are pleased to sponsor this national two- and three-dimensional compact art competition and exhibit for the 15th year.

ELIGIBILITY: This juried exhibition is open to artists residing in the United States. Submissions need to be less than 20″x20″x20″ excluding matting and framing. Work needs to be completed within the last two years. Works previously exhibited in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery are ineligible.

PRIZES: Artists compete for $6,000 in cash awards.

FEES: Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable), which entitles each artist to submit up to 3 entries. Check or money order should be made payable to the LSU Student Union Art Gallery. Entry fees may also be paid bycredit card. Please enter your credit card information on the entry form.

JUROR: Dr. Sara Cochran, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Phoenix Art Museum in Phoenix, AZ and former Assistant Curator at the Los Angeles County Museum.

CASH AWARDS:

First Place (1) $1,800
Second Place (1) $1,200
Third Place (1) $900
Merit Awards (5) $400

DEADLINE: Thursday, September 30, 2010

INSTRUCTIONS: For slide submissions: Send two (2) self-addressed, stamped, legal size
envelopes, one with $0.44 for notification and one with $0.44 for return of slides. Include completed entry and notification forms, labeled slides, and your entry fee payment.

For CD submissions: Send one (1) self-addressed, stamped, legal size envelope for your selection notification.

Include completed entry and notification forms, color printouts of entries, clearly labeled CD, and your entry fee payment.

All CDs will be shredded at the end of the exhibit. Payment can be made by credit card, check or money order for $35 made payable to the LSU Student Union Art Gallery.

Failure to submit payment may make you ineligible for the competition.
