I know of a town with a population of approximately 450, and even their local convenience store carries sushi. I may have to revert to the idea of street vendors or food trucks as urban food. ArtPark is part of LakeFest, a three-day celebration of the arts at the Columbia lakefront which is free to the public and runs in conjunction with the 2013 Columbia Festival of the Arts. Show Dates & Times for ArtPark: Fri., June 14, 5 – 9 pm, Sat., June 15, 12 – 9 pm, & Sun., June 16, 12 – 7 pm. Please note that all artists are required to participate Friday, Saturday, & Sunday during specified hours. No exceptions will be made.

AWARDS: A minimum of $1,750 in cash awards will be given by the jurors. Awards will be made in the following amounts: First Place $1,000, Second Place $500, and Third Place $250.

SALES: Sales will be encouraged where works are offered for purchase, but work need not be for sale to enter. Yeiser Art Center will keep the standard gallery 40% commission on all sales, so price your work accordingly.

International Juried Competition

The Tallahassee International is an annual juried competition organized by Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts. The competition is open to all media and is juried by a panel of faculty from within the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists 18+

MEDIA: Will consider all media

DEADLINE: February 14, 2013

NOTIFICATION: No later than April 19, 2013

ENTRY FEE: $20 for up to 2 images

JURORS: The competition is blind juried by a panel of faculty members from the Florida State University College of Visual Arts, Theatre & Dance. Jurors select works based on their own merit and must agree the artist demonstrates skill within the chosen medium. Selections are made from the digital images, so it is imperative that quality images be provided to insure fair judging.

AWARDS: The First Place winner will receive $1,000.00 and the Second Place winner will receive $500.00. Honorable Mentions are selected at the jurors’ discretion, however there is no monetary award. A color catalog is produced, and all artists who enter will receive a copy. Accepted artists will each receive a set of at least 10 complimentary catalogs.

SALES: The Museum DOES NOT take a commission on works sold as a result of the exhibition. Interested buyers will be referred directly to the artist.

When I see a waxed apple, I have to assume it is really old. Light makes photographs. When photographers are especially attuned to light, photographs become special, wonderful, even magical. For THE MAGIC OF LIGHT, we seek photographs in which light is the decisive component, transforming the image from ordinary to extraordinary.

JUROR: After a career as a New York Fashion Editor and working along side the greats of fashion photography, Aline Smithson discovered the family Rolleiflex and never looked back. Now represented by galleries in the U.S. and Europe and published throughout the world, Aline continues to create her award-winning photography with humor, compassion, and a 50-year-old camera.

She has exhibited widely including solo shows at the Griffin Museum of Photography, the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art, the Lishui Festival in China, the Tagomago Gallery in Barcelona and Paris, and the Wallspace Gallery in Seattle and Santa Barbara. In addition, her work is held in a number of museum collections.

Her photographs have been featured in publications including PDN (cover), the PDN Photo Annual, and Silvershotz magazines. In 2012, Aline received the Rising Star Award through the Griffin Museum of Photography for her contributions to the photographic community.

Aline founded and writes the blogzine, Lenscratch, that celebrates a different contemporary photographer each day and offers opportunity for exhibition. Aline has curated and juried exhibitions for a number of galleries, organizations, and on-line magazines. Though she was nominated for The Excellence in Photographic Teaching Award in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 and for The Santa Fe Prize in Photography in 2009 by Center, she considers her children her greatest achievement.
