CALL for ENTRIES:
National Juried Exhibition 2011

The Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville announces a call for entries for its National Juried Exhibition of 2011. The National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists to compete on a national scale and display their work. Approximately 40-50 traditional and non-traditional works will comprise the exhibition in the main gallery of the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville from December 12, 2011 – January 27, 2012.

ELIGIBILITY: All artists 18 years and older living in the US.

MEDIA: Entries must be original works completed within the last two years in the following categories: Painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, digital, and mixed media), Graphic Arts (pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, conte, colored pencil, and printmaking), 3D (sculpture, ceramic, and fibers), and Photography.

DEADLINE: Postmarked by October 29, 2011

NOTIFICATION: Mailed November 11, 2011

ENTRY FEE: $40 for up to three works ($25 for Arts & Culture Alliance members). Up to three additional entries may be submitted for $7/each ($5 for members). Diptychs and triptychs are considered one work. Works are juried by digital images only. Each 2D work may be represented by one digital image, and each 3D work may be represented by up to three separate digital images: two full views and one detail view.

JURORS: Holding both a Bachelor and a Master of Fine Arts degree in media art from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Neely Hyde‘s professional arts background includes working for art galleries and magazines in New York City, teaching film and art appreciation UT and Roane State and working as the Director of Exhibits and Media Arts for the Association for Visual Arts. Neely is currently serving as the 2011 instructor and visiting artist for the AVA Reel Stories Documentary Project, teaching video classes and workshops, working as a commercial photographer in Chattanooga and exhibiting her fine art photography around the region.

AWARDS: At least $1,000 in cash awards will be given as designated by the juror, whose decision is final.

SALES: Arts & Culture Alliance members: 25% commission (20% for cash and check sales). Nonmembers: 45% commission (40% for cash and check sales).

Since 2002, GLAAD has produced an annual fundraising art event, OUTAuction, part glamorous cocktail party and part art auction. OUTAuction raises much-needed funds for GLAAD’s ongoing work.

Previous artists whose art works have been auctioned off include: Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Herb Ritts, Ross Bleckner, David LaChapelle, Steven Klein, Ryan McGinness, Karim Rashid, Clodagh, Annie Leibovitz, Karim Rashid, Mario Sorrenti, Peter Max, Rosie O’Donnell, and Patrick McMullan, among many others.

JURORS: The curatorial committee seeks to identify and promote a wide variety of individual expressions and subject matter, and is not limited to LGBT content. The main criteria of GLAAD’s curatorial selection process are creativity, originality and quality.

AWARDS: If your piece is accepted, you will receive two complimentary tickets to the event. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. All emerging artists that are selected to participate in this year’s show will be eligible to be nominated for the Best Emerging Artist Awards in three categories: Mixed Media, Painting/ Drawing and Photography.

CALL for ENTRIES:
EMERGING ARTISTS 2012

This is the 20th annual competition for gallery exhibition and awards. This exhibition is devoted to the discovery, introduction and promotion of emerging artists. The exhibition will be held in April 2012 at the Limner Gallery and is open to all artists working in any media. There will be a $1000 cash award and $2400 in publication awards. Deadline for submissions is November 30, 2011.

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all artists, national and international.

MEDIA: All media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 96″ no wider than 120″. Sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36″wide entry door.

DEADLINE: November 30, 2011

NOTIFICATION: No later than December 31, 2011 by email.

AWARDS: There will be a $1000 cash prize awarded to one artist. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #19, Fall 2012 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Direct Art is distributed to bookstores across the USA including Borders and Barnes and Noble. ENTRY FEES: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital files, prints or 35mm slides. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Payments may be by check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions, or by credit card using PayPal.

SALES: All works in the show must be for sale. The gallery will take a 30 % commission on all sales. Sale price is determined by the artist.

Online Entry: On line entries are via email or web post with direct html link . Email files must be in JPG format. JPG files when closed should be approx. 500K (1/2 MB) or less in size, when open approx. 8MB or less.

Images may also be posted to a dedicated web page and a link provided to the page. Web page images should not be download restricted. Videos artists may also post on a personal web page or on YouTube.

Eggs are are simply hope in food form. From a simple, inexpensive carton eggs can become a homemade mayonnaise, luxurious hollandaise, a bright spring quiche, comfortable omelettes a beautiful, decadently creamy custard just to name a few. JURORS: Catriona Fraser is the owner and Director of the Fraser Gallery. Ms. Fraser serves on the Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District Advisory Panel and on the Board of the Washington School of Photography. Ms. Fraser has served on the Advisory Panel for the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County and is Chair of the Trawick Prize, Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards, a fine art competition that awards $14,000 in prize money to artists residing in Maryland, Washington D.C and Virginia. She is also Chair of the Bethesda Painting Awards, an annual competition that awards $14,000 in prize money to painters residing in D.C, Maryland and Virginia. Ms. Fraser is the Director of the annual Bethesda Fine Arts Festival and served as the President of the Art Dealers Association of Greater Washington from 2009 – 2011.

AWARDS: All accepted work will be exhibited in the DC area gallery. Best in Show – $500, Second place- $250, Third Place – $100, Ten Honorable Mentions. At the end of the exhibition series, all awardee’s photos from each of the three shows will be published as a photo book made available for sale. The top three awardees of each show will be presented with a complimentary copy of the book. All accepted work will also be featured on our website, facebook page, and blog.

SALES: All work must be for sale at prices set by the artist. The Howard Avenue Arts Incubator retains a commission of 40% of sales price. Payment to the artist will be mailed within 30 days after receipt of proceeds from sales. Prices should be an accurate reflection of the artist’s sales history and therefore should not be inflated.

If food tasted as good as commercials make it look, I would have to employ a full-time tailor to keep up with my ever increasing size. There is an art to making food in commercials look appetizing, and it usually means the food can’t be eaten. No joking. This next Call may be the most appropriate that I’ve every published. Food, anyone?

There is no theme for this exhibition. The images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work, rather than individual images. Fifteen photographers will be chosen to display their twelve-image portfolios in the Center’s Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 book and online exhibition. One photographer will be chosen to display their portfolio in the Center’s South Gallery.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all photographers world wide, amateur & professional.

MEDIA: The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions.

Select artists also will receive a blog feature at the Center’s blog. The juror will select one portfolio to be the first presented in the book and will select an image from the portfolio to be the book cover. CALL for ENTRIES: Mono No Aware

Mono No Aware is an international film event open to any person or group of persons making work that incorporates Super8mm or 16mm film format as part of that presentation. (Expanded Cinema) In previous years, 16mm film was blended with dance performance, Super8 with live spoken word/audience involvement, & multi-projections with live jazz/musical devices. This is not a film festival for film-makers, so much as it is an film event for everyone. They believe there is magic in seeing a film print projected, a presence a poet has when reading their own work, a feeling that resonates in your chest when seeing music performed live. For these reasons they encourage live film with live additional audio/visual elements.

ELIGIBILITY: Open internationally. Dancers, Sculptors, Musicians, Theorists, Scientists, Athletes, Visual artists, everyone, AND Film-makers are encouraged to submit.

MEDIA: Entries are only be accepted on Super8 or 16mm film. FILM ONLY. No Digital Video.

NOTIFICATION: Nov. 14, 2011

ENTRY FEE: None. They believe that your time and effort are fee enough. Darth Vader’s iconic helmet has long been used as a base for artistic interpretation. In the spirit of The Darth Vader Project, HalloweenCostumes.com will be selecting 25 artists to create an original art piece using an authentic replica Darth Vader helmet. These helmets and their artists will be showcased and auctioned off to benefit local charities. *Editor’s note: I feel fairly certain they will NOT be auctioning off the artists, ha.

Who doesn’t love maple syrup? I am a little embarrassed to admit that I instantly think “maple” when I think of Canadian food. A country with such a rich multi-cultural food tradition (not the least of which is French) deserve more consideration. Nonetheless, I think of maple treats. My in-laws go fishing in Canada every year, and I can always count on a bounty of maple candy and syrup upon their return. But, I’m running a little low this year. CALL for ENTRIES: Mail Art Exhibition

Artists from all over the world are invited to contribute their work for the Richmond Art Gallery’s Mail Art Exhibition and Swap. This exhibition is intended to be a cultural exchange, where artists exhibit their works and receive new works as part of a swap. This shared enterprise is free from the rules of the art market, and yet we ask artists to respond to the theme of “economy” in all its forms.

Mail Art (aka Postal Art) is an art form where artists exchange artworks and correspondence through the mail to one another. The historical roots of Mail Art can be traced back to the Fluxus art movement of the 1960s, where several artists associated with the Fluxus movement began to work with Mail Art as the non-commercial exchange of creative ideas, correspondence and images in mailable formats that existed outside of the gallery system. In the 1970s Mail Art grew as an international art movement, and continues on nowadays with the help of the internet.

To continue on in the tradtion of this democratic art form, all entries received that follow the guidelines on the entry form will be exhibited.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Mail art up to 3 artworks (2D ONLY), sized 5″ x 5″ (120 x 120 mm)

DEADLINE: October 1, 2011

NOTIFICATION: All Hung

ENTRY FEE: None, except return postage to get your artwork swap. $3 Canadian or the equivalent. Canadian residents can send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

AWARDS: Artwork will be traded at the end of the exhibit, and you will receive a ‘swap’. All artwork will be displayed on their online gallery for one year. Your entry into this exhibition signifies that you agree to the swap and having your work displayed online.
