CALL for ART: Gifts of Art

Learn more about the Gifts of Art program from Michigan Medicine!

one EGG or two?

Simplicity can be a gift.  Sometimes what I want to eat has less to do with a craving and more to do with the ease of preparation.  When I’ve had a productive day, a drawn-out night of cooking weighs me down.  Sometimes an egg sandwich is just an egg sandwich; sometimes an egg sandwich is a gift.  This next Call see the transformative effect of art on our reparative health as a gift.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Michigan Medicine (Ann Arbor, MI), the academic medical center of the University of Michigan, for Gifts of Art.  Contrary to the name’s implication, artists are NOT asked to donate work.  I like this call…

Sometimes you just have to jump in and try.  Wary of a new food?  Hold your nose and stick out your tongue–it just takes a few seconds of bravery.  This is how I learned that I hate pistachios and love goat cheese.  By trying them. This Call will be the same idea for many of you. Fifteen dollars, five images and a clear vision of your project in written form.  That’s all it takes.  Maybe it is time to take the leap from local shows to national shows, from national to international shows, from juried to self-curated.  You can do it. CALL for ENTRIES: Still Life

Learn more about the Still Life exhibit from Art-competition.net!goin’ BANANAS

The landscape of my kitchen counter is changing. My day is incomplete without fresh fruit. While the happy dance of the clementines begins soon, it is otherwise just the banana bunny hop for most of the winter.  I find that most in-season winter produce is either not finger food (cranberries, pomegranates) and/or expensive (guava, kumquat, kiwi).  So clementines & bananas still life it will be.  This next Call invites you to create your own still life.  Orange you glad? (sorry)

CALL for PROPOSALS: Solo Show Opportunity

Learn more from the Brentwood Arts Exchange about the Call for Exhibit Proposals!DINNER FOR ONE
and one alone

I don’t share well.  I don’t share anything well, but food is the worst.   I am not proud of it.  Maybe it is an only child thing.  I can logically know that a dish will be too much for me, but I will still not agree to share instead.  If I agree to a lets-get-one-of-each-and-share deal, we have to quite literally cut them in half upon arrival & exchange the halves.  Otherwise I spend the meal obsessing about whether or not my husband will eat more than his half.  I fall short of counting french fries–but just barely.  So, my submission to this next Call will likely be a solo one (although my better self sometimes triumphs); however, you are welcome to contemplate sharing.  Take a look…

CALL for ENTRIES: Red

Learn more about the RED exhibit from art-competition.net!*blush*

Red is undeniably my favorite color.  I find myself drawn to red tones in food, from salmon to cherry Jell-o, Bloody Mary’s to pomegranates.  Go figure.  But recently I tripped across golden raspberries.  How had I missed them all these years?  They are slightly sweeter & milder than the traditional red variety, and I am willing to admit that I like them better in some instances.  I feel like such a traitor.  The next Call is the perfect red celebration.  I like this group exhibit…

I took French as my foreign language in high school.  In hindsight, Spanish would have been more useful, but French turned out to be handy when my love of food emerged.  I am enamored with the use of feminine and masculine nouns.  Did you know that un chocolat is masculine while une orangina is feminine?  Orange you glad I’m publishing this next call?  Bad, I know.  Forgive me…
