GREEN ART: Yosemite Renaissance

Click to Subscribe to www.ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!CHARTREUSE ANYONE?

Is your family green or eco-friendly?  My family has made progress toward going the eco-friendly green revolution in baby steps over the past few years with a little help from our friends over at Toni’s Treehouse.  However, I’ll admit that it never occurred to me that my art could offer a greater opportunity to contribute to environmental awareness. Just don’t ask me to drink the juice, ugh.

Check out the Call for Entries for the 26th Annual Yosemite Renaissance Exhibit.  You can enter one piece for as little as $15 and help create an ongoing desire for the environmental protection of Yosemite National Park in new generations with your unique interpretation of the park.  It’s good to be green…

CALL for ENTRIES:  Yosemite Renaissance XXVI

Yosemite Renaissance is an annual competition/exhibition which is intended to encourage diverse artistic interpretations of Yosemite.

Learn more about Yosemite Renaissance XXVIIts goals are to bring together the works of serious contemporary artists that do not simply duplicate traditional representations; to establish a continuum with past generations of Yosemite artists; and to help re-establish visual art as a major interpretive medium of the landscape and a stimulus to the protection of the environment.

Historically, the arts have played a very important role in the establishment of our State and National Parks.  It is the hope of Yosemite Renaissance that they can be just as important in future efforts to preserve and protect that heritage.

ELIGIBILITY:  The Yosemite Renaissance XXVI competition is open to all living artists.  Subject matter is limited to recent works on the landscape, environment, wildlife and people of Yosemite or the environment of the Sierra.  Both representational and non-representational submissions are accepted.

Yosemite El Capitan by Mike Murphy in 2005MEDIA:  Original artwork may be in any medium.  Size is limited to works that can be shipped in containers not exceeding maximum U.P.S. dimensions of 130 inches, length and girth combined. Triptychs or other multi-image pieces (exhibited under one title) should not exceed 48 x 48.”

LIMITS:  Each artist is limited to eight entries.  No more than two entries from any artist will be included in the exhibit.

DEADLINE:  November 13, 2010

SELECTION & AWARD PROCEDURES:  Artists must submit one digital file for each artwork entered. Up to three digital files may be submitted for each three-dimensional piece.  Please do not submit slides.

Click to learn more about Yosemite Renaissance!1. Preliminary and final selection for inclusion in the exhibit will be made by the jurors from the digital files.  Between 35 and 50 pieces will be selected for the exhibition.

2. Artists whose works are selected from the digital files will ship their original works for the exhibition at the Yosemite Museum Gallery. (If the originals differ significantly in appearance from the digital files which were submitted they may be disqualified.)

3. From the original works the independent jurors will select award-winners to be announced on the night of the opening reception, Friday, February 25, 2011.

AWARDS:  At least $4,000 in cash awards will be distributed at the discretion of the judges. Purchase awards may be given as well.

A special award of $300 will be given to the best piece inspired by Hetch Hetchy (pictured below) that the jurors select to be included in the exhibit.

Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite by Daniel Mayer in 2002
