CALL for ENTRIES: Water’s Edge

I must confess that I do less cooking than my daily ramblings might indicate. My dearest husband does much of the cooking in our household, and he does it wonderfully. But the times I truly enjoy are the times we spend in the kitchen together. And, as I get older, I have found that artistic collaboration keeps me motivated as well. This call offers you an opportunity to produce work while still being someone else’s muse. Great idea…

Check out this Call for Entries from Open to Interpretation’s juried book competition Water’s Edge. Have your work become the artistic inspiration for a literary masterpiece today!

*Editor’s Note:  This is a repeated post because 1) I love the collaborative nature of this Call for Entries and 2) the early deadline is five days away!

CALL for ENTRIES: Open to Interpretation

Learn more about Open to Interpretation!Open to Interpretation is a juried book competition of photography, poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction. Each book begins with a themed call for photos. The chosen photos become the literary inspiration for the writers’ submissions. A book is created that matches each winning photo with two stories or poems that offer different interpretations of the image. The unique collaboration adds new dimensions to both the photos and the written word.

Wind in Water photograph of Lake Michigan by Juror Douglas BeasleyJUROR: As founder and director of Vision Quest Photo Workshops, Douglas Beasley provides workshops that emphasize personal expression and creative vision over the mechanics of camera use. He believes in helping each student find their voice rather than making pretty pictures. Much of his personal work, including Sacred Sites of the Lakota, Disappearing Green Space, Silent Witness: Genocide and the Landscape, Sacred Places and Earth Meets Spirit are supported by grants and commissions and have been widely exhibited and collected. His second book Earth Meets Spirit will be coming out in late 2010. Doug continues to explore the notion of what is sacred in his photography and in his life. He lives in a passive solar home surrounded by trees in Saint Paul, MN. When not out traveling the world he can be found tending his Japanese gardens or enjoying a strong cup of coffee while listening to loud music. Personal heroes include Jimi Hendrix, the Dalai Lama and whoever invented the espresso machine.

ARTIST RESIDENCY: 1 Week River Retreat

CATCH and RELEASE?

One of my favorite things about a river vacation getaway or retreat is the trout.  I like to catch them.  I like to eat them.  I do not like to clean them.  It isn’t about my wanting to be ignorant of the source of my food or the avoiding the death of a living being.  I just don’t like the guts part.  No, really.  If you’re a little squeamish too, make sure you take someone along for this next week-long artist residency on the river.  Take a look…

Check out this Artist Residency Opportunity from Vision Quest Photo.  It would be a great deal at the normal cost of $675; however, here is your chance to get a grant to spend a free week at the Trade River Retreat Center!  For those of you that don’t normally consider Artist in Residence programs due to an inability to leave home for months at a time, this might just be your chance!

ARTIST RESIDENCY:  Trade River Retreat Center

Learn more about Vision Quest Photo online!Vision Quest Photo Workshops announces a new yearly grant of a one-week photographic artist’s residency.  Spend five days to one week alone in the woods devoted to nourishing your artistic spirit at Vision Quest’s Trade River Retreat Center in NW Wisconsin.

For mid-career fine-art photographers looking for a retreat-like experience to work on their art, reflect on their artistic direction, make new photographs, plan new career paths, have time away from work/family/life pressure and stress or use in any way they find useful to move their art or career forward or use the time away to simply reflect on where they are and where they are headed.

Stay in a very private retreat in the woods along the banks of a pristine sand-bottom river. The Trade River Retreat Center is located near Grantsburg, Wisconsin, an hour and a half from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, MN.
