I love red wine, but it hates me.  My mom feels that way about cucumbers. My kid feels that way about cheese. If the cliche “we always hurt the ones we love” is true for food, it always hurts the one by whom it is loved.  It is circuitous.  This next Call wants your take on the love and hate of it all.  Takers anyone?

Check out this Call for Entries for Love/Hate, a group show, at the Lana Santorelli Gallery in Hoboken, NJ!  If you don’t have entries for this show, don’t worry… you can also answer their open call–$20 for up to 20 images.  You can’t beat the price…

YOU FEEL LIKE A NUT

Today, I miss peanut butter.  When I was pregnant, peanut butter was a wonder food.  It had just enough protein, sugar and fat to transform my mood, one tablespoon at a time.  In celebration of my in-laws 50th Anniversary, I am headed on vacation to a much warmer clime…just in time for Christmas.  You know what is not great about a warm vacation at Christmas?  Being in a bathing suit at Christmas… when I should be eating peanut butter cookies and peanut butter pie and everything else that won’t run from me.  Oh well, my pregnancy days are long over, so I’m gonna lay off the peanut butter for a couple of months.  This next Call involves a completely different kind of womb.  Take a look…

MAKING me SING!

I seem to have Italian and Greek food on the brain these days.    I usually write the food reference paragraph of these posts to see what the Call conjures in my mind and stomach.  And, for some reason, it is Italian and Greek these days.  Maybe it is the Suzukakia (Greek Meatballs) I had at Athens Restaurant in Nashville this past weekend.  So, I got to meatballs because I ran across this Open Call for an opera house.  Doesn’t opera make you instantly think meatballs?  Maybe it is just me…

Check out this Open Call from the Grand Opera House (Wilmington, Delaware) to Exhibit in a Grand Gallery for the 2011/2012 season.  The entry fee is only $25, but the opportunity is HUGE!  Investigate…

Generic versus name brand and heirloom versus genetically-modified and cheese food versus cheese. The debates over what makes the grade and what doesn’t will NEVER end. CALL for SUBMISSIONS: Toad

Frogs’ legs are one of the better-known delicacies of French and Cantonese cuisine. They are also eaten in other regions, such as the Caribbean, Portugal, Slovenia, northwest Greece, Italy, Spain, and the Midwest southern regions of the United States.  A type of frog called the edible frog is most often used for this dish. They are often said to taste like chickenbecause of their mild flavor, with a texture most similar to chicken wings. I like them with a side cucumber-dill yogurt.  Yum.  There is no witty food/art connection today–I just love frog legs, and jumped at the opportunity. hehehe.  You cannot consume this next opportunity from Toad, at least not literally, but it does sound delicious. Take a look…
