You know how I love a theme.  I hear the snickers…I am proud to love a theme.  I once had an art critic wonder aloud (in print anyway) if my love for a theme didn’t occasionally cloud my curatorial vision.  Ouch, right?

The BECA Foundation is pleased to present SHIFT, an exhibition of new works of art + design featuring works that express, reveal, embody or address a change or movement on some level – be it social, cultural, physical, metaphysical, political, technological or any other relative shift.

For the purpose of this Call, submitting artists, architects and designers are encouraged to freely interpret the meaning of the word ‘shift’.

Those at least 18 years of age from any country are eligible to submit their works for consideration according to the guidelines below.

The BECA Foundation will host the exhibition at New Studio A.D., a new multi-functional studio, exhibition and event space located in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Check out Future Exhibitions at BECA ICAD online!The space allocated for the exhibition is 650 sqft (60 sq meters) with a ceiling height of 14 feet (4.3 meters) allowing the exhibition to fill a full 9,100 cubic feet (258 meters cubed) of viewing space.

Of the entries submitted, three individual artists, architects, designers, duos, groups or collectives will be selected by BECA Foundation directors + advisors to receive the exhibition opportunity which will run from September 1 – 14, 2010 with an opening reception from 6 – 8pm on September 3rd, during Downtown Albuquerque’s First Friday ArtsCrawl.

This is a multimedia and multidisciplinary exhibition without limitation therefore all works will be considered, including but not limited to: site-specific installations, painting, sculpture, mixed-media, drawing, printmaking, fiber, textiles, illustration, digital art, interactive design, photography, video/new media, film, performance art, music and sound focused works, 3D animation, graphic design, product design, furniture design, haute couture fashion + accessories, architectural interventions/designs and functional art, etc.  In other words, all creative culminations are welcome.

Check out BECA online!With a growing international BECA network of now 30,000, it is more important than ever for BECA to ensure that in addition to hosting the physical exhibition, the exhibition also be made available online at www.BECAICAD.org for those who are unable to attend in person.

BECA outreach efforts also extend beyond its own growing network via news releases, blogs, videos, flip publications and various forms of social media. This extended outreach for each exhibition results in the exposure of exhibiting artists, architects + designers work to over 750,000 members of the local, regional, national and international art + design communities.
