ART OF DEATH

I avoid all talk of death and mortality, in general.  My fondest hope is that we I finally slow down long enough to die…instead of a wake or funeral, my loved ones will plan an elaborate seven course meal for those nearest and dearest to my heart (and stomach).

I have been avoiding all acknowledgment of the aging process when at all possible.  However, the subject has started to creep into my work occasionally…we’ll call it a PREMATURE middle-aged crisis.  Here’s a great call for entries from Gallery 5 in Richmond, Virgina called Momento Mori that explores how you guys are approaching the subject of death and mortality in your work.  Check it out…

Call for Entries:  Memento Mori

Visit Gallery 5 online!Gallery5 is now accepting proposals and visual submissions for Momento Mori, an exhibition that considers death and ephemerality in the modern era. The work assembled in this all media show will look at how artists are confronting these issues today and consider impermanence in cotemporary culture.

SHOW DATES:  Memento Mori will run from October 29th until Dec 17th 2010 and will coincide with an observance of Dia de Los Muertos throughout the month of November.

MEDIA:  Both two-dimensional and 3-demensional works are welcome.

DEADLINE:  Gallery5 should receive all submissions and proposals no later than September 17, 2010.

GUIDELINES:  All digital images submitted should be a maximum of 10”x10” at 72 dpi. Please attach a numbered index of your work that includes title, dimensions, and medium. Bio, statement, resume, and relevant links may also be included in your submission.

ENTRY FEE:  There are no entry fees.
