APPLE
of my eye

New York, contrary to it’s TV persona, is not all bagels, pizza & hot dog vendors.  If fact, it may surprise you to learn that the apple is the state fruit.  NY even gives the apple muffin official status.  But an applewood smoked hot dog really wouldn’t hurt my feelings right now, ha.  This next Call wants to know YOUR thoughts about New York.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from the R. Dixon Gallery (Seneca Falls, NY) for New York State of Mind. One of our readers, 2014 Featured Artist of the Year Emily Mitchell, was juried into their last show. Make us proud…

New York State of Mind

“All you have to do is say it out loud: New York. Almost everyone has an opinion about this loud, funny, wonderful place…including New Yorkers, of course. Whether you know New York from the perspective of the city, the people, the lakes, or the mountains, New York is as diverse as the people who live here. It’s where creativity and energy thrive…and evolve into that indescribable (though still recognizable), New York state of mind.

“The R Dixon Gallery invites you to visually express what New York means to you-whether you are born and bred, visit occasionally, or simply feel in sync with a New York sensibility.  Please submit original art that best expresses your unique and personal translation of the “New York State of Mind” theme.” –from rdixongallery.com

CALL for ENTRIES: Downeast

Learn more from Pitt County Arts Council!EAST WEST
food divide

Food, like language & art, is often just a matter of perspective.  When I say Eastern food, does that conjure images of Chinese take out or Carolina BBQ?  Does Western food conjure images of Tex-Mex or a California roll?  It is all perspective  For the record, MY answers would be BBQ & sushi.  To be clear, this next “Downeast” Call refers to the Carolina, but it is open to everyone.  And, now I want BBQ.  Pick me up some pulled pork if you go to the opening.  Take a look…

SUNDAY
fare

I prefer thought-out, composed meals with true intention.  But, let’s face it…that doesn’t always happen.  Today, my lunch included two olive & cream cheese stuffed pieces of celery, a deviled egg, a pickled beet, two slices of fresh tomato and two pickles. The only thing composed was the beautiful square plate.  Truly, it was a collage of anything I could find that didn’t have to be cooked.  This next Call wants your collage, AND they want it square.  Whatcha think about that?

Check out this Call for Entries from the Collage Artists of America for Squared (online).  If you’re looking for some media-specific, additional online exposure, this is a great opportunity…
