I love cheese–all cheeses.  But, I prefer stinky cheeses, as you know.  However, on a beautiful late Spring afternoon, there is not much better than a slice of cheddar cheese and a juicy slice of Granny Smith green apple.  If you get juried in to the show in the Call, pick me up a block a cheddar at the airport.  Take a look…

FREAKY & FRUITY

With rare exception, I am not a fan of fruit and meat combinations.  Keep your pineapple off my pizza and out of my stirfry.  Lemons and limes are acceptable, and figs and plums are only allowed in Mediterranean food.  While I don’t care to mix my food groups sometimes, mixed media in artwork is a different story.  This Call gives you an opportunity to show your best mixed media work (or collage and digital).  Don’t miss this opportunity for artist representation too!

Check out this Call for Entries from Upstream People Gallery for the 13th Annual Collage, Digital & Mixed Media Juried Online Art Exhibition.  I am not crazy about entering every online show that comes along, but if you are looking for quality online gallery representation, this Call comes with a full year of representation.  Bonus:  only 20% commission!  Take a look…

*Editor’s Note:  I am sorry, Dave. 🙂  If you look at the comments on the CultureHall post, I assured him that I would take it easy on the online gallery calls.  But, this one was already written… and a year of representation with really low commission will work for some of you…

RECIPE for SUCCESS

Like many of you, I frequently “wing it” in the kitchen.  I like the idea of cooking with whatever you have on hand and making adjustments according to taste along the way.  However, while editing a recipe card for The Lodge at Buckberry Creek recently, I realized there is a certain comfort in knowing the exact amount of cream and vanilla in bread pudding.  There is comfort in not guessing the temperature or constantly checking the oven to see if your concoction is ready.  Take comfort in the fact that the Call a well-established show with lots of room for research.  Time to create your own recipe…

Remember when the electric kitchen mixer was only a dream?  Well, no, I don’t either, but you have at least contemplated what it was like BEFORE we had electrical conveniences.  I, personally, don’t think I have the motivation or arm strength to deal with a manual egg beater.  But, I have no doubt that someone somewhere thought that an electric hand mixer was a ridiculous, impossible dream.  This next Call may test your ability to imagine the future, but I encourage you to be open to the possibilities.  Always be an optimist…

The technology is in the palm of most peoples hands and they don’t even realize it. Our goal is to present this new form of communication to the world is going be through art, by having a gallery opening May 7th at Artform Gallery and Tattoo.”

“Nothing like this has ever been done before. We are trying to bring public awareness to the use of this technology in our everyday life, and what better way to do it through art. Especially since life imitates art on a daily basis. This is the future and the time to act is now while we are right on the cusp of this technological revolution.”

*Editor’s Note:  I encourage you to think about this Call with an open mind.  I was very hesitant to publish it because it is vague and unclear; however, after a discussion with the Gallery, I think they are just trying to keep their “secret technology” under wraps until the opening.  But to help you a little, there is an ACTUAL show, not just an online show.  There is an ACTUAL opening, but you don’t have to send your work… only .jpgs.  I have a theory on the technology, and if you email me we can compare theories.  I’ve wasted a lot of entry fees, but I think this $5 is worth being a part of the mystery.
