Trail mix is another reason that I don’t hike.  Well, that and the shoes.  My girlfriends and I are scheduled to hike up to LeConte Lodge in May of 2012.  At an elevation of 6593′, I’m clearly going to have to give up the stilettos, but I’m still hoping I can smuggle some brie and pate in my backpack.  Maybe the folks sponsoring this next Call might have some suggestions.  Maybe I’ll ask…

From avant-garde to f64 images, the Environmental Photography Exhibition hopes to represent the shared vision of world communities that are concerned about environmental issues. The common theme of this environmental exhibition is the images’ ability to  inform, convey, motivate or passionately move its viewer.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists.

MEDIA:  Photography

DEADLINE:  Monday,  December 31, 2011

NOTIFICATION:  January 17, 2012

JUROR:  Kim Hubbard is a senior photo editor for National Geographic magazine where she works primarily on natural history and environmental stories. Prior to that she was the photo editor of Audubon magazine for 11 years.

Wendy Erickson, editor of Photo Technique Magazine,   is a New Jersey based photographer, writer and teacher. She seamlessly blends together traditional and digital imaging, and uses both in her art. Her photographs and writings have been widely exhibited, and published in numerous books and articles.

Stephen Weaver is an award winning photographer with over 35 years experience making images of the natural world. Formally educated as a geologist, Steve combines his scientific knowledge with his photographic abilities to produce stunning images that illustrate the beauty of the structure and composition of the earth and its natural systems.

AWARDS:  Best of Show will win a $500 grand prize.
