STRAWBERRIES

I am not a morning person; however, I do so much love breakfast foods.  Eggs Benedict, yum.  Fluffy biscuits, pumpkin pancakes, fresh strawberries.  Somethings are worth getting up a little earlier in the morning; however, I have decided breakfast food is fair game anytime of the day instead.  Do not be encouraged to follow my bad example…make sure to apply early to this next Call.

Check out this Call for Applications for an Artist Residency at Light Work housed in Syracuse University.  You have all year to apply, but I encourage you to get your application submitted to the Light Work AIR Program early.  Take a look…

ARTIST RESIDENCY:  Light Work

The residency includes a $4,000 stipend, a furnished artist apartment, 24-hour access to our state-of-the-art facilities, and generous staff support. ABOUT LIGHT WORK:  Light Work was founded as an artist-run, non-profit organization in 1973.  Its mission is to provide direct support through residencies, publications, exhibitions, a community-access digital lab facility, and other related projects to emerging and under-represented artists working in the media of photography and digital imaging.

Light Work’s founding directors were Phil Block and Tom Bryan.  The organization has been led by Jeffrey Hoone since 1982.  Light Work is housed in the Robert B. Menschel Media Center at Syracuse University.

BEAM ME UP!

It is getting cold in the Smokies, folks…and I LOVE it.  And I love to tell you about exotic getaways that will allow you to learn a new culture or climate.  Remember the residency call for Roswell, NM?  I was all set to bake alien shaped cookies (like these from organic bakery Beautiful Sweets).  Well, this next Call for Residency applications is a great opportunity, and it may even be a new climate for you…but it isn’t likely to be any warmer.

Check out this Call for Submissions to the Summer Residency Blue Sky Project.  This is an eight-week chance to make a difference with your art.

BUDGET: Your project must be achievable in eight weeks, within a $1,000 budget (excluding final exhibition expenses) and must engage others in its articulation and production. The rest is up to you.

DEADLINE:  January 17, 2011

Previous projects have included: sculptural sound installation, self-published zine of local interviews, performance, musical composition, dance installation, filmmaking, photographic re-imaginings of local sites and nature interventions.  See Afro-Galaxy Automythography Collaborative by Resident Artist Mequitta Ahuja in 2007 pictured above left.
