Can you believe we have arrived at our three year anniversary here at AAAD?  This is post 812.  What has changed in three years?  I receive A LOT of email.  I love the foodie email, updates on careers, and recipes, recipes, recipes.

Most of the galleries and artists that contact me are looking for exposure. They aren’t asking for reviews, recommendations or glowing critiques.  Most are confident in their abilities to prove themselves and simply need a little help getting their gallery opportunities or their personal artwork out there.  I applaud your motivation.

As usual, every year I glance back at the sites older pages and make a few updates to the visual style and ridiculous wordiness of my writing style.  I made a few changes today, and most of them are in response to your requests for additional opportunities for exposure.  There are lots of opportunities for Exposure on AAAD.  Take a look…

  • Click to Subscribe to www.ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!Submit your Call – With 1000+ daily readers, you’ll receive a wide diversity of entries. Guidelines for submissions have been updated.
  • Featured Artist Submissions – Enter the $5 Art Contest for a post featuring your work, an interview and links back to your website. Yes, this went from $2 to $5. Still cheap.
  • Sponsors – You can now advertise your art-related business on AAAD.  This isn’t Google Ads, folks.  Art-related business only. I reserve the right to say “no” if it isn’t the right fit for the site.  Visit the new Be a Sponsor page for more information.
  • Food Sponsors – Want me to try a new food?  Click here.
  • Individual Artists – I am still figuring out the best way to offer an unjuried and inexpensive way for artists to share a page that links back to each website without just making it a long alphabetical list.  Boring.  Give me a little while, and I’ll get back to you.

So thank you for three great years.  I have got the 3-year itch…so hang on folks.  AAAD will be undergoing a few experimental changes over the next few weeks.  As always, I welcome your feedback.

Have a Wonderful September!

COOKIE MONEY

Money is necessary to buy food… or the seeds to grow food… or to rent the land to grow the plants you pinched from someone else.  The point is that money is necessary at some point in the equation As a result, I am known for being particularly sensitive to entry fees and costs associated with putting your art out there.  But I ran across one opportunity, I just HAD to share with you.

Remember my little $2 Art Contest?  I have been outdone by the $1.50 Art Forum Ad Project.  Yep.  $1.50.  You can’t buy a decent cookie for $1.50, but you can advertise your art…albeit tiny.  Check it out…

ART ADVERTISING:
The Art Forum Ad Project

This project, a conceptual artwork by artist Jeff Thompson, allows for 4,200 artists to have their work seen in Artforum magazine.

Check out Artforum Magazine online! Each participant, paying $1.50 USD and sending their image electronically, will then have their piece, along with all the other participating artists, in an advertisement. Of course, due to the number of artists needed to raise the money for this venture, the images themselves will be quite small… about 3/16″ x 3/16″. (think pencil eraser size, but square.)

FEES: You make a payment of $1.50 using PayPal and send an image of your work. The image is shrunk to the 3/16″. When $4,200 is raised, the ad is sent to Artforum to be published.

The final advertisement and all participating artists will be listed on a revised version of www.artforumadproject.com after publication.

SUBMISSIONS:   You can submit payment via PayPal to artforum@jeffreythompson.org, then send your image via email. Please send images sized no larger than 5″ x 7″, 300 dpi. Be sure to include your PayPal confirmation number with your image.

Have Questions?  Email Jeff Thompson!

*Editor’s Note:  This IS NOT endorsed by Artforum Magazine.  And no, I cannot guarantee this is not a scam.  Lots of these projects exist.  But, I would also like to remind you that you have wasted $1.50 before…I guarantee it.  So, if you’re feeling adventurous and don’t have the time or money for skydiving…take a chance.
