CALL for PROPOSALS: Gallery 263

Gallery 263 is currently accepting applications for its Fall 2011 Curatorial Proposal Series. The full series will host six exhibitions between September 2011 and May 2012. The Series provides artists of all media and experience levels a chance to experiment with the organization and presentation of contemporary art. Three exhibitions will be selected for Fall 2011.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists; however, at least 50% of CPS exhibitions will include local artists (from the Boston area).

ABOUT: Gallery 263 (G263) is a multi-purpose nonprofit art gallery in Cambridge, MA devoted to providing the community with a welcoming environment in which to create, discuss, and experience art of all media. Beyond offering a space for artists to present their work, the Gallery invites the public to become involved with the creative process through workshops, film presentations, lectures, music performances, juried show competitions and yoga. I am frequently asked about my favorite foods, and of course, there are too many to name. However, it would be fair to narrow it down Mediterranean food, Greek and Italian to be exact. I could eat eggplant everyday, and if you add a little Parmigiano-Reggiano… I’m in heaven. All this talk of Italian food makes me want to hand-deliver an entry to this next show. How ’bout you?

An exhibition based on the theme of drawing, bringing artists from all over the world together to celebrate the act of drawing (understanding that the act of drawing can also be celebrated in a variety of media outside of traditional drawing materials such as graphite and charcoal).

ELIGIBILITY: While they intend to display all submitted postcards, they reserve the right to not display artwork with profane or pornographic imagery since the “Drawing Connections” exhibition will take place alongside their community arts programming.

I have suffered through a period when he would only eat orange foods… sweet potatoes and carrots. I have suffered through ranch dressing on everything. ELIGIBILITY: 3331 Arts Chiyoda is launching a new residency program open to artists, curators and creative practitioners internationally. With a full range of facilities including accommodation, studio and gallery, creative practitioners have the exceptional opportunity to extend their artistic engagement in the heart of Tokyo.

Not only will artists be able to pursue their own individual research and practice, but they will be connected to the extensive network of Tokyo’s art scene through the hub that is 3331. With the energy of the electronics and anime haven of Akihabara right at one’s doorstep and the traditional cultures of downtown but a stone’s throw away artists will be able to experience all aspects of this kaleidoscopic city from this convenient base.

Artists are not only able to spend time in Tokyo, but are able to create work onsite and then finally exhibit what they have developed during their stay, in the distinct setting of 3331 Arts Chiyoda. They are pleased to be able to offer these facilities to artists who can contribute to the creative expressions of this metropolis and engage its inhabitants in new ways.

ENTRY FEE: No fee to enter; however there is a fee to participate.

They particularly encourage applications from galleries, museums, universities, and arts organizations. They also welcome approaches from individual artists; however, they recommend that artists consider applying in groups of 2-5. Please note that 3331 is unable to offer financial support to artists in residence in this program.

I am a magazine reader. Yep, the paper ones. I read and peruse imagery as motivation for household projects, photography and, of course, cooking. And the occasional gossip rag. One of my favorite food magazines? Food and Wine, of course. I have delusions of grandeur each and every time I watch Top Chefs that I could win that show and have my work featured in F&W. Instead, I am opting to submit my art to this Call for Creative Quarterly. Do you think Food & Wine will be so impressed they will cover my food anyway? Me neither. Anyway, don’t miss this opportunity…

By launching a new redesign, they’ve become a much more interactive journal. They search the web for interesting projects in art and design to share with their readers. They ask their readers to share what inspires them. The purpose, not to copy but to inspire.

Inspiration can come from an innovative chair design or an unusual ring or from an interview with a well-known designer or artist or something from ones past.

Creative Quarterly is the best of art and design, quarterly.

ELIGIBILITY & MEDIA: Open to all undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, professors, instructors, graphic designers, art directors, illustrators, photographers and fine artists in all media.

All entries must have been completed during the last twelve months. All art directors, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators and fine artists are eligible to enter —professionals and students are judged separately. Judging is done digitally. Submission of entries acknowledges the right of to use them for publication, exhibition and promotion.

I talk a good food game. My culinary tastes seem brave to some, but they aren’t really. I know what I like, but I’m a chicken about trying some stuff just like you. I cannot bring myself to even try something called head cheese. I get that it is mainly just meat in aspic, but it sounds gross and doesn’t win huge points with me for aesthetics either. One of you should take a picture of yourself eating head cheese and send it to me. The first one that does will get a little ad in the side bar for a couple of months. Make it a good picture though… ’cause I WILL publish it before you get your ad. I wonder if head cheese is an eligible topic for this next Call for Entries. Take a look…

A Show of Heads

SlowArt Productions presents the annual group thematic exhibition, A Show of Heads. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery from November 3 – 27, 2011.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible.

THEME: This exhibition will include all interpretations and portrayals of the human head, from the traditional to the abstract and conceptual. All visions of the The Head, including partial and multiple heads, will be reviewed and considered.

DEADLINE: Entries must be submitted via email by August 31, 2011.

NOTIFICATION: Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance no later than September 21, 2011. Results will be posted on or before this date at: http://www.slowart.com/results. Notification will be made via email and by posting on the results page. All artists who provide a working email address will be notified via email, if no email is provided, artists will be notified via postal mail only if accepted to exhibit. Type your email address clearly, if a mistake is made you will not be notified.

ENTRY FEE: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital JPG image files. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Details of 2D artwork count as an additional artwork. Sculptors may provide one additional view per artwork without cost. Artists accepted to exhibit will not be charged additional fees of any kind. Payments by credit card at time of entry using PayPal, or check or money order payable to SlowArt Productions.

AWARDS: Winning artists will be featured in a group exhibition at the Limner Gallery, November 3 – 27, 2011. The exhibition will also be displayed on the Limner Gallery web site. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #19, Fall 2012 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display.
