The Contemporary Portrait

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists

MEDIA: Photography fitting the “Personality: The Contemporary Portrait” theme broadly construed; from traditional fine art portraits to novel approaches to the selfie subgenre, personalities may be portrayed in countless unique ways. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

DEADLINE: August 19, 2014 midnight (UTC+01, Central European Time)

NOTIFICATION: All entrants will be notified 7-10 days after the deadline.

ENTRY FEE: €10 ($13.36) for up to 3, €15 ($20.04) for up to 5, €20 ($26.72) for up to 7, & €25 ($33.41) up to 10.

JUROR: Zsolt Bátori is a philosopher of art and photographer, living in Budapest. He has taught philosophy of art and photography theory courses at various universities in the United States and Hungary. Zsolt is also the founder and director of PH21 Gallery.

AWARDS: 1 juror’s choice & 3 honorable mentions will be selected. The juror’s choice receives 3 free entries for any upcoming themed group exhibition calls at PH21 Gallery.

SALES: Gallery commission is 25%. Exhibition prints will be kept on file for future sale and promotion for the photographer, unless the photographer prefers some other arrangement. In case of a sale inquiry the photographer will be contacted. The work of MEGAN ELIZABETH reflects an attitude of experimentation, analysis of the elements of accident & a curiosity regarding the beauty created by the transparency & overlapping of ideas. Washes in the paintings, elements of spontaneity & use of collage are fundamental in many of my works. My inspiration comes from waterscapes, sunsets, bright colors in nature & the silhouettes created by extreme light or darkness. Much of my work has been derived from experiences living in Spain, travels in the Caribbean and in Europe & growing up on the east coast of the US.
