TO SELL OR NOT TO SELL

No surprise…it is hard to put artists in categories.  However, if I were going to force myself to do so, I would mention that some artists are very retail oriented and others just want to produce work with substance and meaning (often known only to themselves).  And, as you know…it is the ultimate artists’ chicken-or-the-egg argument.  Fight amongst yourselves.

I love artwork that leaves me pondering meaning and crawling into the subtle nuance of every aesthetic choice; but, a hand-bound journal with hand-cut pages and a surprise on every page is artwork that function inside the daily workings of my life.  Want to sell your artwork?  Check out this Open Call from Peaceful Products.  They want to help you sell your art, and they don’t take commission.  Yep, you heard me…they ask that you donate a portion of the proceeds to the charity of your choice.  Take a Look:

Best of Show...Each month I will feature an artist from submissions received the previous month.LAST CHANCE for July

I just wanted to post a short reminder that today is the last day of the $2 Art Contest for July.  We’ve had enough entries so far to make the July contest interesting, but I haven’t reviewed ANY of the work yet.  If you get to this post after the deadline, don’t worry…there’s always August.

If you want to read the reasoning behind the monthly $2 Art Contest, visit the page.  But remember…if you want to be considered for the July Featured Artist, the deadline is July 31st at midnight EST.  If you miss the deadline, don’t worry…you’ll be automatically entered in the August contest.

You can’t buy your way onto ArtAndArtDeadlines.com, but here are the tangible benefits to you for your $2 if you are chosen for a feature post.

Benefits of Entering the $2 Art Contest:

  • The distinct honor of being a FEATURED ARTIST of the MONTH on ArtAndArtDeadlines.com .   🙂

I hope you agree…It could be the best $2 you ever spend.

RETRO ART CONTEST: Spirograph

Click to Subscribe to ArtAndArtDeadlines.com by Email!I love the sort of fun whimsy of the design of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.  And as a parent, I love the variety of opportunities that were provided in that era to sneak the principles of design, color and competition into your children’s lives through play.   Just add a Twinkie, and this next call for art entries from Sound Feelings Publishing would be a perfect combination or whimsy and design!

Can you Design Something better than this?

Using your 1967-1970 Kenner Spirograph toy (not Spirograph Plus or any other variant) and using a new Spirograph Multicolor Pen from Sound Feelings Publishing, create one or more BRAND NEW DESIGNS and submit them to Sound Feelings for their consideration to be included in their new, upcoming “Spirograph Multicolor Instruction Booklet.”

The winners will receive the prize money and will also have their names listed by their design (unless you prefer not to).

PRINTMAKING
CALL for Entries

I always fascinated, and a little baffled, by which posts get the most hits at ArtAndArtDeadlines.com

The Featured Artists posts that I expect no one to care about send my hits skyrocketing, while the occasional FREE entry call for entries for an International show opportunity sometimes barely limps by.

Google "Printmaking Call for Entries"One Google search term, however, is so frequently searched that my blog posts from long ago are still coming up as results–printmaking call for entries

You heard me, folks.

My best guess is that there are a lot of printmakers out there, and there aren’t nearly enough shows to showcase them all.  I’ll see what I can do solve this problem, but in the meantime…here’s a little appetizer:
