Photo Contest

Photographer Paul Mobley traveled the country documenting America’s unsung heroes of industry and agriculture in his book: “American Farmer: Portraits of the Heartland”. What began as a break from his commercial photography soon became a journey which led Mobley down a path of self-discovery with a renewal in his passion for making images.

Mobley’s work for American Farmer was recently optioned for presentation as a feature-length documentary. The film goes deep into our nation’s agricultural heartland to tell the personal stories of the indomitable men and women who literally sustain us all. Dubbed “American Farmer” by its producers, the documentary will launch followed by a national PBS broadcast.

Mobley would like you to share your experiences with the country’s beautiful agriculture, farm, farmer’s market and garden world. Capturing your favorite fall harvest scene, summer fruit stand, farmer’s market or road-side stand, share your view this country’s beautiful landscape, agriculture and harvest. Contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers from across the country.

Ex Arte Equinus 5

Ex Arte Equinus is an international art competition dedicated to presenting the horse as fine art. Ex Arte Equinus is a competition that provides contemporary Equine Artsts the opportunity to showcase their work in a Fine Art framework and have it seen on an International level.

Images of winning artwork will be published in issue #14 of Art Horse Magazine (published March 2012). Winners and selected images will also be published in a limited edition hardback book about the show, available from Art Horse Magazine.

ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to artists worldwide. Open to artists 17 years and older. All artwork must be original work executed by the artist. Works produced by non-human artists are not eligible. Works based on a photograph must have the photographer’s permission before entering that work. Works must include a suggestion of an equine form in the image submitted (i.e. a still life painting of tack or hunting dogs would not be acceptable for this show). Previously submitted works are welcome, however works that placed or appeared in any previous Ex Arte Equinus competition or book are not eligible.

NOTIFICATION: Accepted artists ONLY will be notified of their placings via email on or about sixty days from final entry deadline.

JURORS: Susan Leyland (Sculpture category), Linda Shantz (Drawing category), Bev Petit (Photography category), Valarie Wolf (painting category), and Lyne Raff, editor (Digital Art category). Overall prizes will be juried by Juliet Harrison, show director, and Lyne Raff, editor.

AWARDS: Prizes include rosettes for first place through third place for each category. First place and overall winners receive custom glass awards and one copy Ex Arte Equinus V programme book. Winning works will be included in issue #14 (Winter, 3/12) of Art Horse Magazine and in the published show programme book as an opportunity to present the work to an international audience of equine art collectors and enthusiasts. EMERGING ARTISTS 2012

This is the 20th annual competition for gallery exhibition and awards. This exhibition is devoted to the discovery, introduction and promotion of emerging artists. The exhibition will be held in April 2012 at the Limner Gallery and is open to all artists working in any media. There will be a $1000 cash award and $2400 in publication awards. Deadline for submissions is November 30, 2011.

ELIGIBILITY: The competition is open to all artists, national and international.

MEDIA: All media. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 96″ no wider than 120″. Sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36″wide entry door.

DEADLINE: November 30, 2011

NOTIFICATION: No later than December 31, 2011 by email.

AWARDS: There will be a $1000 cash prize awarded to one artist. One artist will be awarded a two page display in Direct Art Volume #19, Fall 2012 issue. Two artists will be awarded a single page display. Direct Art is distributed to bookstores across the USA including Borders and Barnes and Noble. ENTRY FEES: There is a $35.00 entry fee for one to four artworks entered, presentation is by digital files, prints or 35mm slides. There is a $5.00 fee for each additional artwork above four. Online Entry: On line entries are via email or web post with direct html link . Email files must be in JPG format. JPG files when closed should be approx. 500K (1/2 MB) or less in size, when open approx. 8MB or less.

There is no theme for this exhibition. The images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work, rather than individual images. One photographer will be chosen to display their portfolio in the Center’s South Gallery.

COLD CAFFEINE

Lecture of the day…art publication. I don’t have a lot of time to say more today because I am on a caffeine-fueled search for the photographic content of my newest series. Search “art publication” in the box to the right if you are unfamiliar with my rantings on the subject. Having shortened my lecture, I am going to suck down another diet coke and get to work creating new artwork…it is a beautiful day to make art, folks.

Fotoblur Magazine

Fotoblur Magazine is a community-based, published photography magazine. Published photos are submitted by you. Fotoblur Magazine is published quarterly.

THEME for ISSUE 11:
The RGB Issue

Red: Images with a predominance of the color red or whose main subject contains mostly red tones.

Green: Images with a predominance of the color green or whose main subject contains mostly green tones.

Blue: Images with a predominance of the color blue or whose main subject contains mostly blue tones.

How to become
a contributor:

1. Join the community.

2. Create an account

3. When magazine submissions begin, submit high resolutions versions of your best gallery photos for possible publication.

4. Submit as many photos as you like. No restrictions, and it is FREE!

5. Photos are voted on by the Fotoblur community.

6. From the top photos editors make their final selections for publication. For more info on how to get your photos published in Fotoblur Magazine read their FAQ www.fotoblur.com/faq.

AWARD: Published work in Fotoblur Magazine.

ENTRY FEE: None

Themes accepted for Issue 10: Minimalism: Images which are stripped down to only the most fundamental features of its subject. Nostalgia: Images that romanticise and invoke a yearning for the past. Scenes of the Street: Images that are documentary in nature and featuring subjects in public places. Dream World: Images that take us from reality into the realm of dreams.

8/1/2011 – 8/14/2011

Submission Requirements:
Submit your photo as a 300dpi jpg file. Save your image so that the width is 7 inches or greater (7″ @ 300dpi = 2100px). They ask that you submit your images in high (80 – 100%) quality. Please keep the file size below 10 MB. Please refrain from adding borders, watermarks, or text of any kind.
