CALL for ENTRIES: Viewpoints 2012

I understand that the taste of food is subjective.  It is all opinion. It is about your viewpoint.  I love the spicy, pungent flavors of Indian food, but I don’t care about the milder flavors of sushi or grilled chicken one way or the other.  But then again, I love the subtlety of almonds and don’t care for the pistachio’s “pow.”  Go figure.  This next Call wants to see it from YOUR viewpoint.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from Studio Montclair for Viewpoints 2012 to be exhibited at the Ben Shahn South & East Galleries at William Paterson University (Wayne, NJ).  This show is open to all media INCLUDING video and installations. BONUS!

MEDIA:  All media accepted including videos and installations. Work not conforming to the submission will be rejected. Work must have been completed within the past 2 years.

DEADLINE:
November 18, 2011

NOTIFICATION:
December 9th, 2011

ENTRY FEE:  A non-refundable fee of $40 for three images (jpgs) on one CD or three videos on one DVD.  SMI members pay $30.  Two views of 3D work will be accepted.

JUROR: Alexandra Schwartz is the Curator of Contemporary Art at the Montclair Art Museum where she is currently organizing a series of solo exhibitions and a major traveling exhibition, New Order: Art and Politics in the 1990s (Fall 2013).  She was previously the coordinator of The Museum of Modern Art’s Modern Women’s Project and curator of Mind and Matter: Alternative Abstractions, 1940 to Now at MoMA PS1.

Schwartz is the author of Ed Ruscha’s Los Angeles (MIT Press, 2010) and has contributed to various journals, anthologies and exhibition catalogues. She has taught at Columbia University and in the Education Departments at MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art. She received a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and a B.A. from Harvard University

SALES:   A 30% commission will be retained by SMI on all sales.  Works available for sale will be sold at the price indicated on the entry form. No changes in price will be permitted upon acceptance. Works not for sale should be listed NFS.
