I think nesting is common to the winter months and holidays.  For some of my more responsible friends and peers, nesting means cleaning, organizing and decorating.  My version of nesting?  Mismatched pajamas, a quilt we call “the sleepy maker” and sappy, corny or tear-jerker Saturday movies (think Lifetime and Hallmark) …popcorn & chocolate & pizza, oh my.  This Call lets you explore the concept of the Nest.

Nest is an all-media juried exhibition sponsored by The Torpedo Factory Art Center that examines the nest as a symbol for home and refuge.  Artists are asked to respond to the theme of nests and how they view this symbol, literally or conceptually. 

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists and all media.

DEADLINE:  February 11, 2011

NOTIFICATION:  March 2, 2011

ENTRY FEE:  A non-refundable fee of $35.00 must accompany each entry form, and a $10.00 fee for each additional art work submitted.  Checks are to be made payable to the Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association (TFAA) or via Paypal*, targetgallery@torpedofactory.org. *A $1.50 fee applies if you pay by Paypal.

Work by Juror Gretchen SchermerhornSUBMISSION:  The gallery now has an online submission form for your convenience, which allows you to do the entire application process online.  This includes uploading your images and paying by Paypal.  For more info visit the Call online.

JUROR:  The juror for this exhibition is Gretchen Schermerhorn, Artistic Director for the Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.  Thematically, her work often explores the relationships between humans, science, politics and psychology.  Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in such places as Northern Ireland, New York, Boston and Washington DC.  Her work is in public and permanent collections including the Janet Turner Print Collection and Amity Art Foundation.

SALES:  A commission of 40% will be taken on all works sold as a result of this exhibition.  Payment will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the exhibition closing.
