Tomatoes, tomatoes everywhere.  It is THAT time of the year.  The Farmers Market is awash with overly ripe tomatoes at rock bottom prices.  When they are less than $1 a pound, I have such a hard not taking them home.  We’ve taken to having snacks of sliced tomatoes, tomato sandwiches and marinated tomatoes.  They are the stars of their own solo show at our house.  This next Call offers you a solo show too, just not in my house.  Take a look…

Check out this Call for Entries from the Cecelia Coker Bell Gallery at Coker College (Hartsville, SC) for 2016/2017 Exhibition Season. No entry fee, DropBox submission.  Looking for a solo show, this is a great gallery…

CALL for ENTRIES: De La Naturaleza

Learn more about the De La Naturaleza Call from Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and the Central Ohio Clay Arts!EAT MY
bouquet

Did you know orchids are edible?  Many of you have probably seen the sugared variety high atop a wedding cake or as a garnish, but they’re great in salads too.  The flavor is a bit like cucumber with the texture of a buttery lettuce and a touch of the bitter bite of endive.  Don’t eat orchids given to you as gifts.  If they weren’t grown by you, please be sure you only eat certified organic orchids.  The use of pesticides is prevalent in commercially farmed ornamental plants; so, be careful.  This next Call can center on orchids.  It is all up to you…

Confluence of public health and food labeling took a step forward when nutrition facts were added to processed foods.  I promise I won’t go into my issues with processed food or the FDA this time.  The fact that nutrition facts exist on packaging leads me to believe that the interest of both the food industry and consumers can merge into content labeling regarding the origin of food as well.  Fingers crossed.  This next call is a Confluence of art and fine craft with an excellent retail opportunity.  Investigate…
